Today, on International Day of the Girl, we recognize the extraordinary potential of girls around the world while confronting one of the most devastating violations of their rights: child marriage. #Pinks

To tackle our unity crisis, Carney should look at Trudeau’s '77 Taskforce on Canadian Unity. It found first-past-the-post threatens cohesion by making regions one party monoliths, recommending proportional representation to reflect our true diversity. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

The planet isn't "dying" of natural causes. Forests don't just disappear. They are logged. Oceans don't just choke. They are polluted. Rivers don't just dry up. They are diverted. This is not a tragedy. It's ecocide. And ecocide should be a crime. #StopEcocide

Canada's democracy is being openly attacked. 3 million people had their electoral information stolen. Alberta separatists are cutting deals with the White House. We are awash in foreign bots. I talk with @heathermcpherson.bsky.social on why Parliament is doing nothing. youtu.be/_L-HGocUjEI?...

So Trump has been planning to stitch up Ukraine for weeks.
The first Russian diesel cargo heading for the US left St Petersburg on September 22, two weeks *before* Trump announced the deal with Putin, Windward reports. The Greek-flagged tanker Minerva Zen carrying 275,000 barrels of diesel/gasoil is due at the US East Coast around 11–12 October.
I've almost got hit by a car today A true story brought to you by fan. Played out across the city everyday ===== Today today. I almost lost my life. Let me tell you of the intersection of strife. Many cars destroyed. Three times they've tried for me. Death, I barely avoid.
What does this do to encourage business if we’re effectively barred from working with the city bc of unfair, immoral, contracts? Architecture is 17% of the ON GDP yet #OttCity DGAF about local businesses. bit.ly/4ekvVEY
Why #ShopLocal should be applied to small businesses on – and off – mainstreets | Ottawa Business Journal
Governments often design RFPs to demand unreasonably high thresholds for insurance coverage, years of experience or firm size that have little or no bearing on a firm’s ability to deliver the work.

At this critical time for our local economy, we need to make it as easy as possible to start and grow a business in Ottawa. In my Economic Plan, I will create a single point of contact for permits, licensing, zoning and other City processes.
How we get around is crucial to a city; years of austerity budgets by Watson, perpetuated by Sutcliffe, combined with P3 boondoggles for LRT and inept leadership have crushed the dream of transit in #OttCity; and everyone is paying the price: drivers, transit users, economy, residents/tax payers.
Ottawa voters overwhelmingly choose transit as top municipal election issue
Hello, @apnews.com. Mifepristone is not “the nation’s main abortion pill.” It only works well in combination with another drug, misoprostol. Misoprostol actually DOES work well on its own. If there’s a “main” abortion pill, it’s that one.
FDA says its safety review of abortion pill will continue into next year

Many of the things that Ottawa is well known for in terms of quality of life and overall well-being are a result of the efforts of the NCC 1/ bit.ly/3PAALXo
Ottawa is one of Canada's most liveable cities, with little help from the city | Opinion
The Globe and Mail recently declared Ottawa the Most Livable "major" city in Canada. But the top spot is mostly thanks to the NCC.

Ottawa has the best quality of life in Canada. Through my $10-billion infrastructure plan, I’ll invest in more green spaces. I’ll create 150 new parks across the city, including dog parks, district parks, and parkettes. Let’s keep investing in our quality of life.
The Liberals and Conservatives teamed up again today — funny how that keeps happening — to get Bill C-39 over the hurdle of its first vote. The massive, 243-page bill bulldozes environmental protections, Indigenous rights and attacks the right to strike. Here's what this means:
What if we funded affordable housing at same pace we fund roads? What if we used fair contracts & procurement practices to boost local economy instead of driving away talent thru unfair, biased, miserable, project vision; created real value thru ideas, social benefit? @jleiper.bsky.social for mayor!
Basics like approval of SPA in 2-3 months; legal agreements in 2 weeks; reform of DCs so infill isn’t paying for things that they don’t benefit from that end up subsidizing greenfield dev; incentives for infill & sustainability; use of public land for public value (like Lansdowne could have been) 2/
And yet. Your initial housing TF resulted in what exactly? City still killed projects that are exactly what the city says they want to see; what if we simply did what OAA had been recommending since 2014 and what i recommended when we met in 2022 (reform planning)? 1/ substack.com/@toondreesse...
The Challenge of Planning
Policies meet reality; it shouldn't be this hard to build housing

I'll reconvene the Housing Innovation Task Force and bring in AI experts to find new ways to speed up housing approvals and reduce planning costs. We’ve cut red tape and made it easier and cheaper to build homes in Ottawa, but there’s more work left to do.
The market plan was approved before current term of council; funding and commitments announced in 2026 won’t be seen for years as project is delayed; funding is half of what was approved in 2021 for a mediocre plan developed pre-pandemic and ignores key factors. Too little too late.
We'll fully implement our Defence Innovation Strategy, create free trade with Gatineau, attract more international flights, welcome more major events, support the film and television industry, and revitalize downtown Ottawa and the ByWard Market.
