Fascinating visit, as part of a College of Bishops meeting on AI, visiting the Fusion testbed at the UK Atomic Energy Authority's centre for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE). Extraordinary tech (it reached 150 million Kelvins hot!) connecting with important questions of faith.

The Revd Andrew Gready has been licensed by @bishopbarry.bsky.social as Chaplain to communities supporting Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller people across the diocese. The new role will support churches already working alongside GRT communities, and encourage welcome and understanding.

A joyous morning celebrating with @wanderings.bsky.social and the lovely community at Nunthorpe God's faithfulness over the last century and being encouraged in God's call into the next... And there was cake!

Good this morning to license Revd Ashley Mitchell as Chaplain of Queen Mary School, Topcliffe, ahead of tomorrow's commissioning, and to relicense Revd Jo Parker as Interim Priest-in-Charge of Fylingdales, Hawsker, Stainsacre, Robin Hood's Bay and Lower Esk. Alleluia! @dioceseofyork.bsky.social

Both priests and their supporters standing with their license in my study after morning prayer. Breakfast is on the table and everyone is smiling!

Rather poignantly preached tonight on 'what our pet shows us about God' the day after our dear TillyDog went to sleep for the last time. She always sat by the door, looking, longing, waiting - far more overjoyed we were home than concerned where we had been - not a bad glimpse into the heart of God.

Well the Kynren just up the road in Bishop Auckland was rather spectacular and a few tickets left for the last few shows.

The Cleveland archdeaconry is large and varied. Increasingly multicultural urban Middlesbrough is full of local pride and history but also contains 7 of the 10 financially poorest council wards in the country, the highest rate of child poverty and lowest rate of employment in England. The costal churches of places like Whitby contain many of the origins of Christianity across the North East, with next year marking the 1,400 anniversary of Hilda’s baptism. The archdeaconry contains the whole of the beautiful North York Moors, with market towns like Thirsk and Kirbymoorside being key centres of rural life and tourism.

Deeply collaborative, missionally audacious, fueled by prayer and the Holy Spirit, the Archdeacon will have a track record of excellence in creating and leading good process coupled with flexibility and creativity. You will embody a passionate commitment to parish revitalisation and encouraging new forms of church. You will be self-aware and undefended, instinctively able to draw out the best in different traditions with an enthusiasm for working across the breadth of the Church of England. You will be deeply committed to fostering a safer church for all and consider safeguarding a core part of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

You will be a spiritually grounded, resilient, and self-motivated priest who can work strategically and enjoys doing a wide variety of things in a wide range of contexts across the average week.

The Diocese of York welcomes applications from all qualified people, mindful of the desire for our leadership to better reflect the communities we serve and recognising that those of global majority heritage are particularly underrepresented in our current leadership teams.
