I think mathematics at this level is a human endeavor, and solving these problems is an exercise in creativity like working on a puzzle. We’re just losing our humanity by letting AI do all the fun stuff while we toil at our desks doing tedious stuff like filling out expense forms.

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Both true actually: yes A.I. is an existential threat to human civilization and life on earth, and yes also the A.I. industry is exaggerating their own anti-human anti-life immediate threat power (in order to get themselves a legalized cartel going and save their unprofitable business models).

The problem is the population doesnt take it seriously. We should deprivitize and deprofitize the fossil fuel industry, but people think capitalism is the perfect god that can only deliver us bounty of riches. No, its an economic theory, and we need to come up with a better set of rules

Treating this as an unstoppable race, and accepting the "endgame" of runaway warming, is a reckless gamble that should never be decided in a boardroom alone. Betting on future carbon removal to fix today's emissions requires far more confidence than the evidence supports.

Do not underestimate the scale of this climate crisis. We are watching feedback loops accelerate, ice sheet collapse, ocean heat content, methane release, that could lock in irreversible warming. We have all witnessed the data, and it is not slowing down.

If you work at an oil major, I urge you to think hard about what the next decade will feel like. Do you want to greenlight another decades-long extraction project without reckoning with its full climate cost? Or use this moment to demand a different path?

Pro tip: you don’t have to comm artists to boost and support them. People claim they can’t support artists and creators because they are financially strapped, but they can still boost posts, comment, like, and in general just be supportive! It’s completely free outside of an internet connection ;)

This is a critical point, and whats really doing to come for a whole load of jobs. The software the AI is coming to replace is the actual people. The AI is going to drive software like Rhino, or whatever, that already exists, and bosses are going to welcome it in. .

it's two things, to me: 1) trans rights matter because trans people matter and deserve rights, not just because failing to stand for trans rights is a bellwether for inauthentic progressivism more broadly 2) if you can't be trusted on trans rights you can't be trusted on anything
