Today is the last day of #ChallengePoverty Week 2026. Across Scotland, people of faith will be taking time to remember the injustice of poverty. Together, we can build a better, more compassionate #Scotland. #CPW
Trussell Scotland
@trussellscot.bsky.social
An anti-poverty charity and community of food banks working to end hunger in Scotland and across the UK 💚
Lots of great conversations with MSPs, MPs, Cllr’s and activists at @scotlibdems.org.uk conference today, very grateful to everyone who took the time to chat about how we end the need for food banks in Scotland & across the UK. Just a few of the pics 👇
It’s World Mental Health Day & also Day 6 of #ChallengePoverty week. 62% of people referred to food banks in our Trussell community have a mental health challenge. We must invest in better & more timely access to mental health services & fix social security so everyone can afford the essentials
Scottish party conference season is underway! Today we’re at @scotlibdems chatting with MSPs, MPs, Cllrs and campaigners about how we end the need for food banks & build a future where we can all afford the essentials.
Today is Day 5 of #ChallengePoverty Week - and it's also when we are holding our Annual General Meeting. Our chair Polly Jones of @trussellscot.bsky.social writes about the successes and challenges of the past year or so. #ScotlandDemandsBetter www.povertyalliance.org/blog-poverty...
Day 5 of #ChallengePoverty week is focused on investing in communities. Access to #CashFirst support iand advice services in accessible places, is vital to ensuring people get the support they need - when and where they need it.
It’s Day 4 of #ChallengePoverty week. No child in Scotland should grow up in poverty but that’s the reality for 1 in 5 children. This must change. We must see bolder action to meet 2030 targets including an increase in the Scottish Child Payment in the forthcoming #ScotBudget 👦
Day 3 of #ChallengePoverty week & a call for action on fair work. 1 in 6 in work experience food insecurity in Scotland & increasingly work does not protect people from hunger & hardship. This must change. Everyone in work should have a living wage, living hours & security.
Day 2 of #ChallengePoverty week is focused on energy. It’s simply not right that so many people are being forced to choose between heating and eating. Everyone in Scotland deserves a warm home 🏠 & enough income to afford the essentials.
125,000 households are waiting for a social home in Scotland. 🏡 We must build at least 15,693 social homes every year of this Parliament to tackle the #HousingEmergency and reduce homelessness. Help make that happen ➡️ shelterscotland.org/ActLeaders
Today we’re at the launch of @jrf-uk.bsky.social’s Poverty in Scotland report. We must see bolder & upscaled action from all levels of govt to end poverty & build a Scotland where everyone can afford the essentials. More here 👇
📣 New report launched this morning! Today, we've published Poverty in Scotland 2026, the flagship report looking into the depth and breadth of poverty across Scotland. 🗣️ Hear from our Lead Analyst @carlaonion.bsky.social as she shares some of the key findings.
It’s Day 1 of #ChallengePoverty Week and theme is social security. The design & delivery of the social security system is the biggest driver of the need for food banks. Investing in social security, accessible advice services & cash first support is key to ending hunger.
Just encouraging all churches celebrating harvest services over the coming Sundays to have a collection for your local Foodbank. Pleased that Dunfermline East Church will again be having our members donate food for Dunfermline Foodbank @trussellscot.bsky.social @trusselluk.bsky.social
Thanks so much for your continued support 🙏 💚 @alisonstaylormp.bsky.social
Visit to @trussellscot.bsky.social Renfrewshire Food Bank today to check in and donate some essentials they are low on - see list below 👇 The Westway facility in Renfrew is open weekday mornings till 12.30 to drop donations off. They are also looking for volunteers to work there.
Food banks haven’t always been needed in Scotland or across the UK. Yet our community of food banks now provide millions of emergency food parcels a year. This isn’t right. In ‘A Taste for Change’, our Social Change Advisor asks: how do we build a food bank free future?
It was great to be able to give a couple of quick thoughts on Good Morning Britain this morning about the new social security plans announced by the the Conservatives. Here's an article with a slightly longer version of my view on this: lnkd.in/eP6RwEc5
Everyone should be able to afford a secure home too many people are making impossible choices between paying the rent, eating & keeping warm. It’s time to close the growing gap between Local Housing Allowance & rising real rents. www.theguardian.com/business/202...
Pay rent, eat or keep warm? Growing numbers face hard choices as housing benefit gap grows

🚨 Twice as many children are waking up without a home compared to a decade ago, new Scottish Govt stats reveal. Decades of under investment in social homes means 10,715 children are now trapped in temporary accommodation. Help us fight for an end to child homelessness 👉 shelterscotland.org/ActCH
Universal Credit doesn't add up. Too many people can't afford the essentials. This must change - send your MP a postcard to let them know. 👇 universalcredit.trusselltrust.justpost.cards
It’s #NationalFoodbankDay today but 26 years ago there was no food bank day because there were no food banks. Now, because of the cost of living and our poor social security system there’s more than 1,400 in the Trussell community alone. Yet no mention in the recent Programme for Govt. 🤔
Programme for Government today and we’ll be looking for action to: 🔹 End the need for food banks 🔹 Support people in crisis with better advice & #CashFirst approaches 🔹 Tackle child poverty 🔹 End child homelessness 🔹 Invest in social security and employment support. #PFG
We have joined families, @shelterscotland.bsky.social & partners to call on the First Minister to act now to end the scandal of child homelessness.
Families with experience of homelessness joined Shelter Scotland, @fifegingerbread.bsky.social & partners to call on John Swinney to put ending child homelessness at the heart of the Programme for Government 10,480 children in temp accommodation cannot be the new normal 🔗 shelterscotland.org/OL-PfG
❗ Young people can't afford to live. Our research found that a third of 16-25-year-olds cut back on food in the last 3 months. Young people should be thinking about next steps in their lives, like moving out or learning to drive, but they can barely even afford to get by.
Very pleased to be attending @shelterscotland.bsky.social @fifegingerbread.bsky.social Building Hope event today. There’s no route to ending the need for food banks that doesn’t include ending the #HousingEmergency
We’re with @fifegingerbread.bsky.social, bringing together people with lived experience, allies and professionals to show change is possible. 10,480 children are trapped in temporary accommodation in Scotland, but this isn’t inevitable. Together, we can end child homelessness. 🤝 #HousingEmergency
Thanks to Mark Griffin MSP for meeting us & #Falkirk Foodbank to discuss the changes we need to see to end the need for food banks, including: - an end to councils placing people in unsuitable temporary accommodation - more Scot Govt funding for the the Scottish Welfare Fund - making work pay.
It's not right that people are having to turn to food banks just to survive. But together, we can change this. 💚
