How to turn this into a ribbon? “Really janky fun”? “I 🩵💙 really janky things”? For anyone unaware, I am one of the co-chairs bidding to bring Worldcon back to Dublin - @dublin2029.bsky.social - so I can vouch we’re putting a lot of time and effort into this janky, volunteer-run piece of my heart.

John Scalzi@scalzi.com · 3mo ago

As far as I know no other organization does it the way Worldcon does because a) Worldcon is fundamentally a fan organization, not a guild or governing body, b) it's a really janky way to run things and no one today would set out to do it this way. This is what organic fandom development looks like.

We’d like to give an extra congratulations to all the Irish finalists and those associated with our bid that were nominated for this year’s Hugo Awards, ahead of voting opening tomorrow!

The LA worldcon Hugo Announcement banner. In large capital letters it reads '2026 Hugo, Lodestar, and Astounding Awards Finalists'. On the top left is the Hugo logo, a light a dark grey stylised rocket with the word 'Hugo Award' underneath. On the top right is the LA Worldcon logo, a red and orange eight pointed star with light blue wings, with the words LAcon V below. The background is light blue with a large cartoon rocket behind the text.
