That "men should be allowed, without judgement or consequence, to do an amount of harm to women and girls that I personally deem acceptable" seems to be a genuine opinion still held by too many people in the year two thousand and twenty six is incredibly grim

I am sure you will agree that Ben Baldwin has given us another magnificent cover for Dan Mackmain’s latest adventure. Dan and Fin are off to Ireland – a trip I know many readers have been keen to see. The Green Man’s Debt will be published by Wizard’s Tower Press on 10th September 2026. #BookSky

Cover art by Ben Baldwin for The Green Man's Debt by Juliet E McKenna. A grey wolf with pale eyes stands in the shadows of a derelict building with a black and white tiled floor. The wolf is looking straight at you. Its snarl reveals blood on its teeth and jaw.

** As it's being discoursed: I do not use any generative AI (ChatGPT, Claude et. al.) at any stage in my writing process. I write because I enjoy writing. I enjoy the challenge of expressing an idea, or character, or setting in such short form and tell a story with them. It's all human made. **

Space Unicorns!! The Uncanny Magazine KICKSTARTER is currently sitting at almost 77% funded!!! A HUGE THANK YOU if you have already backed it!! BUT...if you want a ONE MONTH short story submission period instead of just two weeks...THEN WE ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS TO FULLY FUND!! buff.ly/YXbF3WP

Photo of Michael Damian Thomas with a drawn speech bubble and typed text saying, “Writers, Please Share! If the Uncanny Magazine Year 13 Kickstarter fully funds by Aug. 1, we will be open 1 MONTH to short story submissions! If the Kickstarter funds after Aug. 1, we will only be open for 2 WEEKS to short story submissions! If we don’t fully fund, well…”Above is a small typed caption, “and now for a word from uncanny magazine’s publisher and editor in chief Michael Damian Thomas…”

urrgh idiots accusing Emily Wilson of "self-promotion". Heaven forfend that an eminent classicist, translator, authority on the works of Homer and professor of humanities should engage in academic criticism of the work of others in her field of expertise and then, brazenly and shamelessly, SHARE IT.

Nope. I don’t accept this position — that we are powerless to change the outcome of this mess. We have a small, time-critical window where we can collectively navigate through this. Also don’t forget, these are commercial entities that are selling products/services that are subject to laws.

Private companies could ruin the night sky for the entire world, and international law can't stop them

"The regulatory environment and regulatory framework has significant gaps and holes in it. Essentially, the technology is outpacing the regulatory environment."

We’re looking for volunteers! Eastercon is entirely volunteer-run, and we need people like you to make it happen ❤️ Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, to learn how the convention works, and to give something back for all the great times you’ve had at cons gone by.

The outline of the science fiction version of the Unconfined convention logo. A silhouetted skyline of Glasgow in dark blue is arced across the top. There is a mirrored skyline below in dark green of a science fiction city skyline. In the centre it reads ‘Volunteer for Unconfined 2027!’. The top line is green and the bottom line blue.

There's a lot of issues all wrapped up in here obviously, but the extent to which some English people believe that the Irish are lower ranked subjects, who should be forced in line by coercion (economic or otherwise), is never less than staggering to me.

Rowling looming over a progressive Irish cultural festival with her menacing insinuations & a phalanx of expensive lawyers dashing off legal letters. And all because the organisers don’t want transphobes peddling hate at their event. A nauseating spectacle of spite.
