#BikeBus Mastodon: @ascentale@sfba.social Oakland, CA

I keep coming back to the basic problem that if people lose their damn minds at the thought of not being able to drive on one single street next to the ocean, how are we supposed to cope with these kinds of much bigger changes that are inevitable and imminent?

In just a few decades, summers in California will not only be much hotter, but will also stretch for months longer. Floods will become more widespread and extreme. Exposure to wildfire smoke will kill thousands more people every year.

This Tesla is stuck because it goes forward when set to reverse, and there’s no more space for it to go forward. Seems like a software bug. How are these cars allowed on the road? How are they allowed to “self drive”?

Tired of being yelled at by drivers for existing on the roadway. It’s been a while, but have had two incidents in the last week. One nice thing protected bike lanes so is that they provide car-free space so you can exist with less harassment

Lots of members of the community were at Strawberry Creek Park in Berkeley yesterday. Bike parking was over capacity, so we, like many others, parked on the grass. If the city builds more more bike lanes nearby, the Hidden Cafe is going to need to expand.

Full bike rack, ivy covered brick wall, large windows on side of building. Yellow Phoenix Pastifico sign.

Notice how he doesn't even mention parking, despite the containers being located along the curb. Other mayors would talk about the tradeoffs and say, "Look, we know New Yorkers like their parking." Not Mamdani. He keeps the focus where it belongs: on cleaner streets.

Now this is the kind of trash talk we can get behind. We’re containerizing neighborhoods by taking trash off our sidewalks and allowing mid-size buildings to trade in their wheelie bins for a bigger, better, cleaner alternative: Empire Bins. It’s time to put a lid on it, New York.

“'There is no magic compromise that preserves all parking on Hopkins and makes Hopkins safer for everyone,' advocate Marc Hedlund told the council. 'You have to choose the policy you believe is best for Berkeley — please choose safety for all.'” I'm glad they did.

Berkeley City Council votes to back Hopkins Street bike lanes

The council narrowly rejected a proposal to study changes that would encourage cyclists to ride on other North Berkeley streets.

On my ride home, I stopped at an intersection, and waited for a car to cross. I heard a weird noise, turned around, and smiled when I realized it was a barking dog in a car. The driver flipped me off when I looked again! I wasn’t even in the way!

A friend’s dad was hit by a driver while riding in the bike lane. He’s a local musical legend & rode his 1973 Schwinn around Santa Monica daily. He’s recovering from brain surgery and multiple fractures. Please share if you can. www.gofundme.com/f/help-stan-...
