Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Glasgow. Criminal law/justice, autism, women’s football, penguins and Pokémon (only for the kids, honestly). Previously known as Gruntasnorus Poo Face but let’s not talk about that.

Protestors outside the Sandyford in Glasgow on the last day before the safe access zones come in. They cannot arrive soon enough. No “silent prayer” today. Loud protest that would be distressing for any woman or girl accessing the services 😭

I know many of you will know Dr Emily Cooper (criminographer): if, like me, you still have a Twitter/X account but never use it, please consider making an exception to send her and Darren your love, support, prayers - whatever you want to offer.

This man grabbed his penis when Spain won and forcibly kissed Hermoso on the lips without her consent. All on live TV. Now they are trying to gaslight us into believing “she wanted it” by publishing pictures of her body language. I feel sick. ...

Heaving into ⁦@UofGlasgow⁩ on another scorching day for the annual Sir Gerald Gordon Seminar in Criminal Law. Remembering Pete Duff and Gerry Maher, who both died this year. Both were supporters of the seminar right from its inaugural event in 2009. We will miss them.

Currently sitting in Kelvingrove Park and can hear the Jesus and Mary Chain sound check in one ear and THREE separate piping groups practising for the Scottish Piping Championships in the other. It’s an … interesting mix.

Fab day yesterday holding the Gerald Gordon Seminar in Criminal Law in person for the first time in 3 years. Huge thanks to our wonderful speakers ⁦@jcollinsbristol⁩ ⁦@CyrusTata1⁩ ⁦@MrFass⁩ ⁦@roxanna_law⁩ Louise Kennefick, Peter Reid and Stephen Skinner.

I feel desperately sorry for Mrs Harper. However … Is this to apply to causing death by dangerous driving/careless driving? Even applying it to manslaughter cases drives a coach and horses through the principle of reflecting culpability in sentencing. ...

I missed @bbcstrictly last week so tonight was the first time I’ve seen Johannes and John and I’m 😭😭😭 Two men dancing together, hugging, holding hands on mainstream tv. This will mean so much to so many young people. Just joyful in a week where there’s not been a lot of that.
