I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.
Socio-legal academics, postgraduate researchers, early career researchers: the Society of Legal Scholars and @lawatleeds.bsky.social invite abstract submissions for a one-day workshop focused on developing research on the legal profession. All disciplines welcome. Deadline 18 Nov. Pls share. Thanks!
Did Kent Police ignore Dover blockade 999 call? We can reveal the story that undermines the public statement of Kent Police. 🧵
If you don't want the RNLI to save refugees who would otherwise drown, I don't want you being saved by any emergency or medical service & I reserve the right to laugh in your sobbing face as you pass away in fear & agony. If we're doing theatre of cruelty, let's not fuck about, let's do it properly.
We have made a full documentary about what really happened at Reform conference. If you only watch a bit of it please make it these 39 seconds. You won't regret it.
picking a side in a face off between street fash and the RNLI is not fucking Sophie's Choice, it's strawberry ice cream or a bucket of shit. and the Home Office go for the bucket every time.
A large group of co-ordinated, masked men blockading a piece of significant infrastructure is a security threat and should be dealt with as one. There should also be serious questions about why police/intelligence services didn't pick up on it in advance.
This was clearly not an act of spontaneity. Dozens and dozens of men travelling down, all wearing black, all wearing masks is anything but a spontaneous protest. An infuriating response.

M&S profits so far this year are around £650m. Tesco profits last year were £3.15bn. So they can fuck off.

A few years ago I went to a pig sanctuary and most of the pigs were stoned from eating green acorns. This one, Wilbur, couldn’t stand up and was too big to lift, so the staff had to leave him in this bush and wait for him to sober up.
autumn is fast approaching which means it's time for pannage: the ancient commoner's right of taking your pigs to the forest to feast on fallen acorns, chestnuts, and beechmast

We once lost away at West Ham 1-0 under Walter Smith and neither side had a shot at goal. We find a way.
We are told to ignore the racism of Hegel, Kant, Locke etc because they were just "men of their time". So what do we do with the racism of current academics? Are they too just "men of their time"? What is this "time" that seems to make racists of men?

once again I will say that the only person I've ever met who's been even worse in person than online was Toby Young
Basically very, very few people are openly objectionable in person - but you are the totality of what you do and say, not just when you want people to like you and when you're around people you've decided worthy of respect.
So, we found a live bat in our galleries. 🦇 a thread🦇
If the PM is going to achieve this, then he needs to have some serious words with the Home Office. Kicking refugees out of Home Office accommodation with only a few weeks' notice and no support leaves thousands facing homelessness after a positive asylum decision www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This is one aspect of the problem. Litigants in person use AI to generate often excessively lengthy pleadings and submissions that can seem superficially plausible but which require to be sifted through minutely to identify what is real. It’s common for LiPs not fully to understand what they submit.
