Whenever I get asked 'what are some of the big mistakes writers need to avoid?' my sincere answer is 'focusing on avoiding mistakes'. All my favourite books have obvious & grave flaws, but they lean into what they do well. They commit. They minmax, decide what's important & swing for the fences.
