Sunlight Altar - abyssal folk

@sunlightaltar.bsky.social

Folk from the void by producer and guitarist Jayant Makhan and @joostvervoort.bsky.social singer of terzijdehorde.bsky.social. Always abyssal, always antifascist. EP 'Twilight Altar' out with @fiadh.bsky.social Feb 20th

Much appreciated @florgoth.bsky.social! We're pretty far along with a new record, excited about that.

#NowPlaying (again) More music of the soul-healing variety, this time by @sunlightaltar.bsky.social. We covered this EP on #FeatureFriday a while ago and it blew all of us away by being something very different than our usual stuff. And by being amazing, of course! Highly, highly recommended!

Slowly finding our way to people with @sunlightaltar.bsky.social makes me very happy, and this is so cool: finding a home among others in the doomier folk space.

@bandcamp.com 's Metal Show by Brad Sanders is very doom-folky: a great interview with @cinderwellmusic.bsky.social, a feature of a song by our own @sunlightaltar.bsky.social , and many other excellent artists that I'm logging for the 2026 long list. Proud to be on this. bandcamp.com/radio?show=970

This is a really great show, lots of juicy dark and doomy folk to discover and @cinderwellmusic.bsky.social's interview and new album are great.

Thought: if games can be truly metal as fuck, and especially in styles like black metal or doom metal, it allows them to escape the 'this is a fun entertainment product' aesthetic to some degree and become something else, something more resonant.

A still from Bloodborne

'A remarkable collaboration between Vervoort and Jayant Makham, it turns out. No blast beats or screams, but rather songs that shine in atmosphere and fragility. Vervoort steps outside his comfort zone here by singing clean.'

Really cool review of our EP by Nevermind The Hype. Very cool to feel like people really hear your music.

A very nice review of @sunlightaltar.bsky.social's Twilight Altar by Nevermind the Hype: 'Joost Vervoort has a lot on his plate. As vocalist for Terzij de Horde, he knows how to blow away many an audience member with his brutal throat (and soon even Lowlands).' nmth.nl/ep-van-de-da...
