I used to fantasize that if money wasn’t an issue I could just start a label and promote the bands I dig and put more of that out into the world but I’m starting to suspect that bankrolling a music publication indefinitely would have a bigger impact.

live nation is actively killing publications that cover new artists while also promoting festivals that almost exclusively cater to nostalgia and legacy acts. these problems are not unrelated.

Anecdotal but the largest audience for generative AI outside of c suite dinguses appears to be hobbyists who are furious someone charged them (or even just said there was a price) for a commissioned art piece once
