Fulmar chicks have been hatching over the island in the last few weeks and you can just see this youngster peeking its head out. It’ll be early September before it fledges.

It might not look much but this young Guillemot (aged just 20-21 days old) has jumped off its cliff ledge home and is now following dad out 60 miles. The chick will rely on father for next 6-8 weeks. Remarkable start.

This great blue heron was wading through a wetlands nature preserve in Lake County Florida, the Emeralda Marsh Conservation area.
