The manuscript of the week is RIA MS 23 E 25, Lebor na hUidre/Book of the Dun Cow. It was written in Irish at Clonmacnoise before 1106 A.D. In 2012, with @ceilteachomn.bsky.social, we held a conference on the book. The papers were published as Codices Hibernenses Eximii I & recordings are available.

The Irish Medical Manuscript of the Month for July 2026 is London, British Library MS 15403, containing a tract on the properties of 167 ingredients. The Manuscript of the Week is RIA MS D ii 3, the Stowe Missal. Written in Latin between A.D. 792-803, the Stowe Missal is a Mass-book of the early Irish Church, small enough to be carried around for the use of a priest on his travels.

Fionnbarr Moore (National Monuments Service) spoke about the archaeology and the landscape of ogham inscriptions, and Edel Bhreathnach introduced ogham stones as the first historical source in Ireland, with a special eye on the kin-groups in Waterford. A very successful event! /4

I spoke about ogham as a writing system, the language and the contents of the inscriptions, and about the later life of ogham in manuscripts and in the 21st century. There was also huge interest in my booklet "Ogam. Language - Writing -Epigraphy". 😊 /3

We had a fabulous seminar on Ogham yesterday at the Lismore Heritage Centre in Co. Waterford, organised by Edel Bhreatnach and the Waterford County Council. There was a great turnout (despite it being a Saturday morning), and the deputy mayor opened the event. /1
