Just a piece of cortex I saw under the microscope today 🤓🔬 Cell types: neurons 🔵, astrocytes 🟡, microglia 🟣. Observe how astrocytes are covering two long blood vessels, crossing all the gray matter and almost reaching white matter. The brain is so pretty!

Microscopy photo showing some cell types in the brain, including neurons in blue, astrocytes in gold and microglia in purple. Piece of the frontal cortex (Brodmann area 46), rhesus macaque.

This place sort of feels like the science Twitter I used to like. Maybe even better? Fingers crossed. Wish I had a fresh preprint to share, but here's the next best thing: a fresh osprey with some blue sky background.
