Launched in 1995, 1 year before the ADS, Internet Archaeology is an international, open access journal for archaeology, based at the University of York. Edited by Judith Winters, IA publishes quality, peer-reviewed research that explores the potential of digital publication.

In 1996 the ADS website looked quite different, and was most commonly viewed via Mosaic or Netscape Navigator. Access to the different sections was via buttons which resembled Rock Art decorated pebbles.
