You'd think that unions 🤝🏻 & the wiki ethos were perfectly aligned, not however according to the Wikimedia Foundation who are currently throwing all the union busting tools at its workers 🤯 solidarity with all those unionising.

Querying the @gettymuseum.bsky.social SPARQL endpoint is part of the code, and although SPARQL is more robust than 15 years ago, it can't withstand AI bots hitting it for every chat or question on artworks. CC @danieltbrennan.bsky.social
This is the dark side of #openaccess we never imagined or intended. The requirement, "Fetch fresh per need. Do NOT build a reusable local pool of downloaded images to draw from." at scale is effectively DDOSing cultural heritage infrastructure.

It has been brought to my attention that the forest fires around Bordeaux are burning up the pine plantations set up on drained wetlands there in the 19thC, a project widely admired and imitated around the world. In case someone wants to fund my global history of pine project.
