Trump has handed a free gift to Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Tsinghua, Sciences Po and many other universities who will gladly enroll the tuition-paying foreign students who hoped to study in the US and are now barred. No surer way to make America weaker, poorer, and less influential abroad.

"She's not antisemitic," Bilge said. But like many other Muslims, Bilge said, Ozturk is concerned about the human rights of Palestinian people. "But that's freedom of speech," Bilge said. "That's just being human."

Jennifer Ruth Hoyden, a former classmate of Ozturk's at Columbia Teachers College, said she was just "an extremely gentle human being." All of Ozturk's family is in Turkey, and she only has friends here in the United States, Bilge said. Bilge said Ozturk would never say anything to hurt anyone. "She's not antisemitic," Bilge said. But like many other Muslims, Bilge said, Ozturk is concerned about the human rights of Palestinian people. "But that's freedom of speech," Bilge said. "That's just being human."

Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.
