I felt this with the cage fighting on the White House lawn. The video game like posts from official government accounts depicting violence. Hegseth bombing boats like it’s a game of Battleship. The memes making Trump into a superhero with his gigantic guns. It’s a pattern. And it’s escalating.

Historian of fascism here. This is an escalation of an attempt to normalize extreme violence, ritualize violence, militarize the country, and make violence entertaining so when they ask you to commit violence in their name, you will be ready.

Trump & Hegseth aren't just proposing to livestream an execution for people who want to watch.

The state of Tennessee botched an execution and it was absolutely horrific. So our federal government sees fit not to stop executions but instead carry one out live on TV. It’s an exquisite level of barbarism.

It’s October 7th and it’s difficult to find words. I have nothing but sorrow for the widespread death and destruction, trauma and pain, strife and division. I struggle to see a path forward but will continue to seek one. It can only be built on a foundation of safety for all people, not vengeance.

One of the bazillion reasons you should take domestic violence seriously is that abusers are completely unfit for leadership positions. Because they are abusive. Because they are violent. And their policies and rhetoric will also be abusive and violent.

Trump: "I could've done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could've done very very bad things to Joe Biden. I could've done very bad things to Barack Hussein Obama ... I can do whatever I want, if I want."

One of the things I love about my work is the way advocates show up for each other. We may be working on different issues (though really they’re all related) but we’ve got each other’s backs. The way my friends are showing up for me with this ballot campaign… it means a lot. Like, a lot. 🧡

Today at a community event an irate man called me the r-word and some other choice things in front of my staff. Though much much worse than that, he said it in front of his young daughters. 🧵

The fraternity brothers in the group chat who cheer violence? That behavior is being modeled by the president of this country. I cannot stress this enough — Trump is teaching young men how to be abusive every time he opens his mouth.

Trump: "We've gonna shove it up their ass ... They are a bunch of dumb son of a bitches" Remember when presidents had dignity? Here's a lowlight supercut from Trump's rally tonight in Ohio:

The not all men response clearly comes from a place of discomfort. I wish more men understood the difference between discomfort and danger. And yes, we are asking men to sit with discomfort so women don’t have to live with as much danger. 1/2

Interesting that he says he wants to establish the death penalty for large scale drug dealers when he’s issued pardons or commutations for notorious drug dealers: Juan Orlando Hernández, Ross Ulbricht, and Larry Hoover. TLDR: if you line his pockets, he pardons. If you’re poor you get murdered.
