George was a great guy. I vividly remember meeting him at a mixer at the IUCr meeting in Seattle in '97 when I was a grad student. We had an hour long conversation about SHELX and crystallography and other things over beers. Both a deep thinker and down to earth guy. He leaves a big impact.
The CCDC team are saddened to learn that George Sheldrick has passed away. His impact in #Crystallography was immense; from the SHELX software used globally, to teaching, structures, journals, and more. More by the ECA here: ccdc-info.com/41gvV3M
Fun fact about George Sheldrick: he wrote a paper on his SHELX software (that everyone uses for small molecule crystallography) in Acta Cryst A which caused the journal to go from Impact Factor 2 to an IF = 50. Spawned discussion on the relevance of IFs. Huge impact.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of George Sheldrick. A dedicated professional with a distinguished career, his work and leadership touched countless lives. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time. Remember George with us: bit.ly/3QtoTUy

One of the joys of mentoring is getting a glimpse into your students “outside the lab” life. Got to see the amazing #LNYF25 performance including our amazing undergrad researcher Cynthia Zhi!

Interesting riff on science inspired by a story about Chappell Roan. I like it. Equally good food for those: 1) quietly struggling to find the motivation to keep going with their science 2) ignorantly raging about the process and taxpayer value of science www.instagram.com/reel/DCjzrMJ...

This is very interesting. And it DOES NOT mean that TREM2 is not a good target. It's a complex target.
Alector announced that its investigational agent AL002, a TREM2-targeting therapy, did not meet primary, secondary, or exploratory end points in the phase 2 INVOKE-2 trial (NCT04592874) in early AD. company is stopping the long-term extension study.1 www.neurologylive.com/view/al002-f...
