I didn’t know before watching some short documentaries on, of all places, Criterion Channel, that North Dakota’s public banking is a legacy of the Non-Partisan League (farmer activists from the early 20th century)

CPBA’s @trinitytran.bsky.social breaks it down. CA is the world’s 4th-largest economy, yet we pay billions in interest & fees to Wall Street banks and private investors. North Dakota’s economy is just 1/50th our size. Its public bank returned $335M to the state last year. Imagine our potential!

This is an excellent snapshot of a superb idea! A state public bank that serves the public interest and returns profits back into our public purse instead of sending to Wall Street and investor class elites. We could do this is WA, all we need is political will. @waforpublicbanking.bsky.social

Faye Wilson Kennedy w/ the Poor People’s Campaign brought the conversation back to who gets left out when Wall Street decides where California's money goes: renters, homeowners, transit riders & communities that have waited decades for investment. A state public bank changes who money serves!

BIG! California’s State Bank Act #AB2243 cleared its 2nd Assembly committee & moving through the Legislature. CA sends billions to Wall Street in interest while communities fight for housing, infrastructure & investment. This bill starts changing that. www.theobserver.media/california/c...
