‘THE ODYSSEY’ has passed $1 billion internationally. The first time a non-sequel or non-remake film has reached this mark since ‘Avatar’.

Always thought someone should create a Bluesky called "Comics Never Used to be Political!" and then just post pics like this over 40 years old scene where the characters, after being caught in a clash involving right wing activists (in white robes yet!) note the absence of police.

Me, listlessly checking my e-mail for the umpteenth time in case there's some news from a publisher or editor: Nothing. Me: sigh Me: I gotta do something productive. Me: ... Me, refreshing my e-mail just in case...

In Canada (where cultural self-loathing is a badge to many) Heritage Minutes were (iirc) seen as corny n "de guvurmunt"...and went on to educate an entire generation or two! Prob never to happen again (with fewer people watching commercial TV) This one really did create an idiom lol Fun thread 👇

A scarey thought is something I've seen repeated. That there are people who spend a lot of time on-line, scarffing down news like a blue whale, and others with, y'know, lives (family, jobs, etc) who don't (esp. US news) and if you explain *you* sound insane and they think you're hyperbolic.

Someday I'd like to write a story that reads like a Tom Waits makes you feel...although probably with superheroes or space aliens :)

Had another story rejected, sort of; they'd like to hold it for consideration for later. That's the thing: if you make final rounds, or "almost", it's still no-sale...but confirms you can, y'kniw, write. You can put words together professionally enough. Guess that should be a confidence booster 🤷‍♂️

So I was talking with two different psychiatrists recently (what? No! I'm good! All good! hahahah! uh...how you?) and they did this thing of asking a question and when I said I didn't understand they...repeated the question. Verbaitim. Is this a technique? 'Cause it's off-putting. First thing...1/2

A depressing thing re: the CDN/US friction is that many of the Canadians wrapping themselves in the flag and yelling at the US don't hate Trump or the MAGA/GOP for its ideology (the racism, fascism, etc); they're just mad it's turned on them/Canada (and happily wore red MCGA caps a few months ago!)

I tried HERE WeGo earlier today and found it works well for both driving and walking directions. This non-American navigation app is produced by the Dutch company HERE Technologies, is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and still displays Lake Ontario correctly. wego.here.com

Google has now renamed Lake Ontario for US users. They don’t even show the real name in brackets. I used a VPN to compare: Apple hasn’t renamed it (at least not yet), nor has Dutch service Here WeGo or OpenStreetMap. Yet another reason to ditch Google, and US tech more broadly.

Doug Ford is basically the "normal" version of Trump, hoping to ride the anti-Trump train. I saw a pic (assuming not AI - and I hate we have to add that disclaimer) of an Ontario sign bragging about Lake "Ontario". Isn't there a better use of public funds than playing Trump's childish name game?

Submitting to a tyrant makes you look a coward. Submitting to a tyrant like Trump makes you look weak, stupid...and a coward. So many leaders, captains of industry, self-styled Alpha Males, have no idea how badly they've forever destroyed their cultivated myth of meritocracy. You coulda said no.

Looking at essay/pundits whose threads are full of people going "right on!" and "you're saying what I was thinking!" and I felt a pang of jealously; often when I wrote essays the response was "you idiot!" But then I thought: is the former any better? Or just proof you're singing to the choir? 1/4

The lesson here is that Americans consider Canadians as NPCs who cannot possibly have their own agenda and should be admonished for taking lessons from the actions of Americans towards their country.

It's Jack Kirby's birthday! He was largely responsible for creating the very language of superhero comics and no one ever did it better. His essence is still influential, even today. In his honour, here's a few sketches I've done of some of his greatest characters.

Dug this! The first film is a masterpiece and while the sequel doesn’t hit the same height it’s an impressively unconventional sequel that actively strays away from repeating the same beats with an allegory that’s less specific but tragic in its own right. Tatiana Maslany looks like a baby.
