It’s true, in the past I would have had multiple editors in my inbox asking me to write about the Cunningham stuff. I haven’t gotten a single assignment request. Trans writers used to be tokenized to write about these things but now that the topic is “mainstream,” those bylines go elsewhere.

I need people to understand that for the last half decade that there’s been an ecosystem of trans folks in sports media who have worked unpaid to serve as experts for context, sources and educators on what it’s like for trans athletes, in hopes of potential bylines and contacts. That’s dried up.

Not sure whether this article is about these specifically, but most theater chains do baby-friendly morning screenings with lower volume and the lights up, which was great for us when Child was new. She slept through several movies. Would not dream of taking a baby to a regular screening, tho!

So many parallels: Advances followed by brutal backlashes. Hatred cloaked in concern about "fairness" and "undue influence" on children. Insistence that it's a medical/mental problem. Rage at cultural institutions that "promote a lifestyle." Invective about "special rights." Malevolent statehouses.

Hearing Jane Schoenbrun's newest prominently features a song that used to be heavily featured in my second novel (I cut it in favor of something else), so I guess transes of a certain age* really love that song more than the general populace? *-quite young in the grand scheme of things, tbh

Every time Olivia Rodrigo does something like perform with Smashing Pumpkins, I think, "I've still got it!" conveniently ignoring that she likes that band because her parents are roughly my age.
