"The new criteria say that grant recipients must teach abstinence as the only means to prevent teen pregnancy... They make scant reference to preventing sexually transmitted infections and virtually none to lesbian, gay and transgender sexuality."

Government Overhauls Teen Pregnancy Program to Focus on Marriage and Starting Families

The administration canceled federal grants to organizations across the country, accusing them of encouraging premarital sex. New criteria say programs should stress abstinence.

In 2010 Congress created the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program to reduce teen pregnancy. It reduced teen pregnancy by 72%. Now this administration wants to focus on abstinence only education and scare people away from birth control. We live in the dumbest of times.

Suppressing birth control information (for girls), scaremongering about masturbation (for boys), it’s the kind of sex ed that Anthony Comstock stood for until his dying day (in 1915)

In America, where irony is dead, a hotel chain uses a policy denying shelter to local people, for fear of accidentally housing homeless persons… To deny a reservation to the author of a much-lauded book on how American economic unfairness forces working people into homelessness.

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles. When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies. This is outrageous.

The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.
