The terms of the deal between the U.S. and Central African Republic to facilitate third-country deportations are unknown. But it seems to have been facilitated by the State Department.

Q: If the administration has declared on waste and fraud, could you explain the $420 million overpayment for a prison in Appleton, MN, when they company offered it to the state for $75m? BESSENT: I don't know anything about that. That's a waste of our time.

I'm in a hearing now in the case of Kenis Lopez Gonzalez, whose attorneys are asking a judge to order his immediate return to the U.S. from the Central African Republic. Judge Jeffrey M. Bryan says he is prepared to issue an order today. Background:

In 2024, an immigration judge ruled that Kenis Lopez Gonzalez could not be deported to his home country because he was at risk of torture. So, after arresting him during Operation Metro Surge, ICE sent him to the Central African Republic. A judge will hear Lopez’s case Friday afternoon.

Kenis Lopez Gonzalez spoke to me from a detention center in the Central African Republic, where ICE sent him in August. Kenis is among the thousands of deportees shipped to unfamiliar countries — many of them politically unstable and autocratic.

most of the people i interview who are in immigration detention are christian, and spend a lot of time reading the bible. i have found that it is always, always worth it to ask if there are any verses or chapters they keep coming back to, and why.

supports my theory that having klobuchar + flanagan on the top of the ballot will help the DFL. lots of enthusiastic flanagan voters will reluctantly fill the bubble for klobs. lots of enthusiastic klobuchar voters will reluctantly fill the bubble for flanagan. something for everyone on the ticket

I don't love being put in the position to have to vote for Amy Klobuchar in the year of our lord twenty twenty-six, but I did thoroughly enjoy voting for @ilhanmn.bsky.social and @peggyflanagan.bsky.social today, so that made me feel a bit better about it all.

y’all — if i’ve been slow to respond it’s because over the past month we’ve had our home broken into, car stolen, and cat euthanized. and then today the dog got hit by a car — miraculously it seems he’ll be okay
