I'm still cracking up at the city council member saying, "Thank you. Darth Vader?"
Darth Vader spoke in favor of Flock cameras at a San Diego city council meeting yesterday
'The Emperor Is a Fan of Flock': Darth Vader Speaks at City Council Meeting
"This council was elected to serve the police, not the public," said Vader.

It turned out be the other way around. First it merged with performance art, then politics.

Discursively, I think it’s interesting that these folks are now invoking communism because socialism no longer carries the foreboding connotation they’re going for.
Mike Johnson: "The next Congress will not be arguing over marginal tax rates, we will be arguing over whether or not we are going to maintain our republic, or if you will go down this dark dangerous deadly road to communism."
Imagine being more concerned about Bluesky ‘dying’ instead of Planet Earth actually dying because of techbro oligarchs
Been following Zach for nearly a decade and the vital information he’s shared online has been clear, data driven science about what’s happening to the arctic.
We have very unfortunate news to share today... 😢 I've been an author for this report since 2020, and we just celebrated our 20th anniversary edition last year.
I literally organized convoys of essential supplies by bicycle after hurricane Sandy in NYC, and in 25 years here cannot remember so much constant flash flooding and daily thunderstorms. This is a movie theater in Brooklyn today. We’re long past a tipping point. Our ship is capsizing.
Proof is everywhere we’ve broken the world in a way that should not be hypernormalized: everything from sports to cities to skies with unprecedented disruptions. But Adam nails every single day a catastrophic event happens we’re given little to no context on the existential threat of our lifetimes.
Piece I just wrote for Current Affairs. www.currentaffairs.org/news/the-mas...
The sky over NYC is made of water & pure electricity these days
I love romantic comedies and I love political cinema and I love light sci-fi and this movie butchers it all completely while also propping up conservative embracing of fascist surveillance. It’s like they engineered this in a lab for me to hate.
Hell of a review of the Sex Purge movie & where we’re at in the US right now
"If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die. Death with dignity is surely a better fate for the genre than fascist capitulation." Zero stars for this piece of shit movie. My review of ONE NIGHT ONLY for @ebertvoices.bsky.social
BrooklynVegan, Alt Press, et al being unceremoniously shut down by a company owned by the guys from Good Charlotte that’s also owned by Live Nation is a plot that would happen in a direct to video sequel to Richie Rich.
At first I was like ‘why can’t Americans make straight up romantic movies why do they always have to have a goddamn high concept gimmick’ but this has got to the most inadvertently relevant movie of our times?
Why in the green fuck did the NYTimes give an oligarch’s failson an op-ed to write propaganda & falsehoods justifying how he’s massacred CBS News?? At least the WaPo had to be bought out by Bezos before they became a mouthpiece for this kind of bullshit. deadline.com/2026/08/davi...
David Ellison Says CNN Is Root Cause Of Paramount-WBD Merger Battle
In a NYT essay, Paramount CEO David Ellison argued that CNN is at the root of opposition to the company's merger with Warner Bros Discovery.

Could every issue of X-Men with Psylocke after 1989 also be classified a ‘Racial Slur Variant’?
Every once in a while, I remember the time in 1998 when Marvel accidentally printed a Wolverine comic where, due to bureaucratic cock-ups and a garbled fax, Sabretooth was referred to as a "kike" in the narration Possibly the funniest bad thing ever to happen recalledcomics.com/Wolverine131...
After my parents were visiting set for the first time, I asked my dad what he thought. He said “I didnt realize, it’s like you’re building a house, and once an hour good looking people run in and put on a play for five minutes. Then they leave and you go back to construction.”
People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...
Been offline so none of you had to suffer thru my annual Tour de France posts so summarizing now the real story this year was no one could outrace global warming. Shortened stages, wildfires, & adaptations for rider physiology so extreme it’s like overheat doping. www.nytimes.com/athletic/743...

Get in the fucking Criterion Closet where you belong Shinji (are they gonna restore the cast karaoke covers of Fly Me to the Moon tho?)

Thought we had really really moved on to try and work for a better tomorrow but didn’t know how brutally triggering it would be to hear wizened hysterical boomers shrieking the word ivermectin again.
The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.
I wrote a whole book about this! And it wasn’t hard to find people to include; it was hard to narrow the list down from *OVER A HUNDRED* early gamedevs
many of the early and most successful game designers and developers were women most people don't remember their names today, or recall that video game history started before the Boys Toys era funny that many of the games I grew up loving most were designed by women and I never knew til years later
Reading @greatdismal.bsky.social's Sprawl trilogy back in the day I wouldn't have guessed that the most depressingly prescient bit would turn out to be the sociopathic zillionaires like Josef Virek and the Tessier-Ashpools, but here we are.
Thiel sees tech entrepreneurialism and kingship as intimately bound together: acting outside the rules to build the future that no-one else has the long term vision to grasp. “There have to be CEOs and founders. Anyone who doesn’t see how very satisfied I’ve been throughout production doesn’t get what I most want out of an adaptatation. Mind you, that does tend to happen.
Now this is so reductive can’t let it slide. The co-creators of the Neuromancer tv series are Black & Native American, it looks like you didn’t catch the iconic Molly Millions is Black in this adaptation? And Case sure wasn’t generic when the novel lit sci-fi up like a tv tuned to a dead channel.
Don’t write the most generic white protagonist into your sci fi TV series challenge
