An interesting piece out from @democratictheory.bsky.social. One of the things Mamdani’s campaign & admin does that is replicable & good for democracy beyond policy is to broaden opportunities for civic connection & tell increasingly layered stories of peoplehood w/ “the people” being New Yorkers.

I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.

Reading this and can't help but think about how communities of all kinds come together in the immediate wake of disasters, politics aside. And how I've been racially slurred the hardest by a good ol' southern boy who nicely helped me pull my car out of a ditch after a storm. The future is unwritten.

This is actually quite smart of AOC.A lot of the MAHA adherents have been let down by a medical establishment that dismisses women’s concerns at every stage-birthing to menopause(which they only recently started studying).They should have somewhere to turn for non crazy solutions to real problems.

I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

I study sexual violence and I think people would be surprised by how often people still bring up COVID once they know they’re talking to someone who is willing to hear about trauma.
The Fig Economy@figgityfigs.bsky.social · 7d agoOne of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.
Sometimes I refer to myself as a Luddite because I dislike AI and don’t think its utility is particularly high. But I’m so far from anti technology. I love technological breakthroughs! I just think we should celebrate&invest in tech that is good for people& the planet. To me this is common sense.
