We’ve relied on U.S. paid plasma for over three decades Our first real boost in self-sufficiency was thanks to commercial plasma We will not be the first country in the world to be self-sufficient without paying donors We’ll just be hypocrites again
I'm super proud of this very thorough Deep Dive that we worked very hard on for @thehubcanada.bsky.social on housing. The CCC worked tirelessly to crunch the numbers in a way that Canadians can better understand the hurdles they truly face, and what we found was truly depressing.
@ricksteves.bsky.social is one of the coolest dudes on TV, anti fascist and pro legalization while being the best travel guy around. We’re watching him again while we plan our honeymoon trip!
PSA: @ricksteves.bsky.social, who is both the main reason I’ve planned three phenomenal European vacations and one of our leading defenders of cosmopolitanism, is on this app
Check out the trailer for CCC's Fun Police Season 3, where I make an appearance. It was great speaking with Bill about Canadian alcohol history and policy in this podcast, episodes start streaming March 5!

CLEMENT/EL-CHIDIAC: Be wary of the CRA autofiling for taxes
"Two complaints are most common among Canadians during tax time: taxes are too high, and filing taxes is too complicated."

The most important thing you will read today and probably for a while. I’m so proud of my friends @janetbufton.ca and @tomgpalmer.bsky.social for working so incredibly hard and being so through with this.
Part 2 of my FAQ on the far right, written with @tomgpalmer.bsky.social, is out now at @theunpopulist.net. Its goal is to help you spot far-right influence, understand how it works, and do something about it. 1/

Christine Van Geyn of the Canadian Constitution Foundation and I are in The Hamilton Spectator talking about how important it is for provinces to immediately get serious about breaking down provincial trade barriers the more they realize that the USA is not a reliable trade partner.
The time to tear down internal trade barriers is now
Provinces could choose to enact freer trade, which would unite us as a country during this time of deep economic uncertainty.

It is Black History Month and each day this month I am sharing stories from Canada's Black history. Today it is the story of Chloe Cooley. She was an enslaved person whose story led to the first legislation in the British colonies to restrict the slave trade. 🧵1/9
What has happened to my friends @jkuznicki.bsky.social and @andycraig.bsky.social is unacceptable. These two people are some of the most intelligent out there, we need their voices. A campaign to try and invoke fear in those who speak their mind is truly a sign of moral failure and reprehensibility

Exclusive: US President Donald Trump is expected to announce new tariffs against Canada and Mexico that will begin on March 1, but will include a process for the countries to seek specific exemptions for certain imports, three people familiar with the planning told Reuters reut.rs/3PXG68b
It is laughable that QC's latest bill is meant to show women are equal when they dont let women have the same rights by banning religious symbols, namely the headscarf, from those who work in government service. If men can wear whatever they choose, women should be able to as well. That's equality.
I'm hearing a lot of voices in Canada saying that it is patriotic to show Trump that we will go dollar to dollar and hit the USA with tariffs. The Team Canada approach should rather be one that would not make Canadians suffer more than they already are with affordability.
In case you missed it yesterday (spoiler alert, they did not)

How do tariffs hurt consumers in both the USA and Canada? Well, here's a thread 🧵
@sabineec.bsky.social making the arguments that need to be hammered constantly to shore up opposition to tariffs and trade wars. NatCons won't be moved on these issues—they're not the target. Send this to people you know who care about the cost of living and access to the consumer goods they want.
Day 1 tariffs are bad for everyone — including President Trump
President Trump should not pursue rash Day 1 tariffs after his inauguration is over. The market shock will be severe.
