Mermaid Dante inspired by a three-spotted frogfish. His long green hair is flowing loosely around his head and he is frowning slightly. His cheekbones, pectorals, shoulders, biceps, forearms, sternum, and hips are a beige-yellow. He has sets of gills along his ribs. He is braced on a small rock with his right hand. His fin is wide and longer than his torso. He has two fins sprouting around his hip bones, a thicker more arm-like fin halfway down his tail, and the fin on the end of his tail fans out with spots of thinner tissue that make it look littered with holes. His tail is green in colour with splotches ranging from blue-green to yellow-green. He has three brown-red spots on his tail, one near his hip, one behind his thick fin, and one along his dorsal fin. He also has a modified dorsal fin ray sprouting from his forehead known as a “lure”. His lure is vaguely starshaped with 9 points.

The second mermaid Dante is inspired by a big-belly seahorse. His long green hair is spread around his face and head, flowing subtly upwards. He has a conflicted look on his face, with furrowed brows. His chest is thrust forward while his back is arched. His arms are tied behind his back with yellow rope that is attached to his tail which curves back around to rest parallel to his head. His tail is thicker around the hip and stomach area but tapers to be quite thin at the tip. His tail is green and yellow in colour, lighter near his hips and darker near the tip. His tail is striped yellow and spotted dark green. The spots are more sparse around the front/central area of his tail.

The third mermaid Dante is inspired by a sockeye salmon. He is perched on a rock out of the water, bracing one hand against the rock to hold himself up and blocking the sun with his other hand splayed near his forhead. His hair is wet and wavy, hanging heavy over his shoulders and behind him. He back is arched to show off his tail fin which is bend upwards out of the water. He has fins on his arms that are turquoise in colour. His shoulders and the centre of his chest are also turquoise. His tail is red. He is smiling with teeth, only one of his eyes is visible behind his bangs.

Fan fiction writers will craft book-length pieces with the promise of no monetary gain, all for the love of the craft and the fandom. People writing for months on end amidst their busy lives. It’s a testament to the fact that humans will create with no other incentive than for the joy creating.
