Reminder: so long as one law enforcement officer in Milwaukee has access to Flock, it will be abused. Passwords will be shared, people will be stalked. And private, actionable info will be shared with ICE too. New City of Milwaukee guidelines are permission slips. bsky.app/profile/404m... (1/3)

NEW: Hackers ripped down a Flock camera above a roadway, made a near-complete copy of the data stored inside it, and shared the files with 404 Media and @wired.com, revealing in new detail how exactly Flock Safety’s cameras track the movements of both vehicles and people.

Guardrails are permissions. Whether it’s Flock cameras, AI scale data centers or anything else, toothless guidelines developed only with the industries and departments exploting are not a win. They’re a way of diffusing protest and entrenching these inherently…

Toothless guidelines and backroom deals allowing the continued use and abuse of Flock cameras are not sufficient. Milwaukee should bag its cameras, end its contract, and work with us to ban the use of this technology statewide. AB576 does just that.

The only way we can reverse this trend is by changing the status quo. We have to stop locking up more people, for more crimes, for more time. And we need to shut down torturous facilities like GBCI and Waupun as soon as we can -- our next Governor must take this problem more seriously.

This August, Wisconsin set an all-time record for incarceration in state prisons at 23,854. To put that in perspective, that's enough to fill the entire Fiserv Forum, the new concert venue across the plaza from the arena, and then some.

“As the Wisconsin Legislative Socialist Caucus, we want to protect all workers and every community. We have consistently voted against tax breaks for data centers – and, just months later, were the first to call for a statewide moratorium on AI-scale data centers." (1/3)

You can and should point out that police killing people daily is the "norm" in America. But that doesn't mean you *accept* the normalization of this violence and the way some people rush to smugly point these things out contributes to collective fatigue. Your horror has been stolen from you.

ICE's repeated lies aren't reformable. They're inherent to the agency's purpose: discouraging all immigration by terrorizing immigrants and people of color anywhere and everywhere they can. The violence is the point. ICE must be abolished.

Three men who witnessed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s killing by federal immigration officers in Houston disputed the Department of Homeland Security’s account of the shooting and said the victim never attempted to run over a federal agent.

This July 4th, it’s clear: we can only have community, or solidarity, without white nationalism, imperialism, and fascism. It is possible to love a country’s history, and its people, while opposing its government’s acts — and the capitalist ideology that limits our vision. (1/2)

The real headline from the birthright‑citizenship case isn’t the outcome. It’s that four Supreme Court justices signaled they believe a president can effectively rewrite the Constitution through executive order.

I was grateful to have the opportunity to speak after Democratic Socialists of America - Madison’s screening of Boycott. Wisconsin is, shamefully, one of 38 states which has an anti-BDS law on the books, and I was happy to address how to support our legislation to repeal it.

This is what we get when we let care trickle down, rather than making it a public good: Families can't afford to pay a living wage for care for their loved ones, so they either have to do that work themselves or hire someone whose marginalization leaves no choice but to work for insufficient pay. 1/

Long term care is especially reliant on immigrant labor. Direct care workers are among the fastest growing categories of healthcare workers, and are disproportionately women of color & immigrants who are paid <$15/hour
