Gave a talk in my dept. on the OSF transition. I wrote up a rough script of the session, which could be of interest to others. I synthesize existing resources and provide my own perspectives. Comments and corrections welcome! zenodo.org/records/2306...
I worked with Jake on this story for months, and it’s truly one of the best deep dives into how online sports gambling works that I’ve ever seen
Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵
For context, twice as many people are struck by lightening on average each year in Florida than are alleged to have voted illegally in the 2024 election
11 million ppl voted in Florida in 2024. This means that instances of illegal voting—if all 20 of these cases are actually that (which, doubtful)—would have been .00018% of the total vote.

I am sad to share that Project Implicit, my first non-profit and foundation of my career, is closing. The IAT website will continue, managed by the next generation of leaders in implicit bias research. Here's the statement I posted to LinkedIn. It didn't vibe right as a bsky thread.

I was genuinely proud to be at UF during the summer of 2020. And so glad to be gone during all of this sad unraveling.
University of #Florida "gator bait' cheer, banned in 2020 because of its racist connotations, came back at the UF season opener this weekend. New UF prez says that "traditions matter" <rolls eyes> www.espn.com/college-foot... via @espn.com
Who gets to claim a religious exemption? In the eyes of Americans, the answer depends heavily on political ideology, not just the belief itself. My first first-author paper is out in @spspnews.bsky.social’s Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin! New paper 🧵1/10
People often ask what your name says about you. But what about what your name says to people? 🤔 This is the question that Anthony J. Lee (@antlee53.bsky.social), Odette Lis, and Sofia Panagiotakou answer in their new paper now published in Social Cognition. 🧵 Opening thread!

Prior research has cast doubt on the validity of implicit measures, finding small correlations amongst indirect measures of racial bias. However, these measures vary systematically on key procedural aspects. 🧵👇 Open thread below:

County-level implicit + explicit racial biases—among White residents overall, and White teachers specifically—were consistently and positively associated with Black–White disparities in AP course enrollment (although this was not the case for AP exam taking and passing). www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Out in Group Processes & Intergroup Relations: The Future of Latines’ Racial Categorization and Sociopolitical Attitudes Amid Rising US Diversity tinyurl.com/4hateszc This work—led by @mv1691.bsky.social—examines how (re)racialization could shape the politics of U.S. Latines in the coming decades.
Another new, useful paper on the potential biasing effects of measuring attitudes pre-treatment in survey experiments, this one focused on racial attitudes. Finds no bias from pre-treatment measures in two of three racial attitude measurement strategies www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
My apple watch does not understand me. I don’t care what miniscule adjustment I need to make over the next 9 weeks to get my exercise arrow pointing up. What do I need to do TOMORROW?
Another way of framing: state &federal government have relatively withdrawn from footing most of bill for higher ed such that even as absolute spending has gone up, the proportion of costs covered by gov/public has decreased. Universities adapted by a combination of strategies, one is intl students.
the students from abroad typically pay more in tuition and so subsidize working class US students. This policy is an attack on upward mobility
Does anyone know if literally anyone in the entire history of the whole world has ever purposely purchased an individual article from a scientific journal? Or, uh, rented one for 24 hours for $25? Asking for, I think, nobody.

Sharing a scale that we just published in Sex Roles. It allows you to measure home and work roles for men and women separately (most existing scales fix those into zero-sum decisions). Scale is included in the Appendix. rdcu.be/fyd8f

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
🚨New preprint🚨: Attitude measures like the IAT reveal biased behavior — but the levels across which bias operates are varied. Our new preprint borrows formal modeling approaches from perceptual science to find out where age-valence interactions happen in perceptual processing🧵
