UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme

@pomscheme.bsky.social

A partnership working with many volunteers to gather data on insect pollinator populations in the UK. Led by UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. Find out more at https://ukpoms.org.uk/

Many thanks to Andrew and all our other volunteers for keeping our long-term monitoring surveys going during a difficult field season 🙏 Will be fascinating to see what the data shows. Hope you enjoyed the well-earned refreshments!

My last 2026 1km pollinator survey for @pomscheme.bsky.social today in a very dry and hot north Carmarthenshire. Five pan trap stations put up and collected, 6 fixed timed counts, 1 bee walk count, landowners thanked, 18k steps. And that's me done for the year. And now...ice cold in Clydach!

Well done to @whitmuir1.bsky.social and all the @pomscheme.bsky.social volunteers who are keeping up with their 1km surveys this summer. Please do take care in the extreme temperatures ☀️ Good to see some woodland habitat providing refuge for the insects and surveyors here 🍃

At last! Time to do my 3rd @pomscheme.bsky.social visit of the year to my #kmsquare for an insect survey. Not a lot of flowers on my transect at the moment. Luckily there are some insects in the wood at the end. @ukceh.bsky.social

Have you done a ten-minute FIT Count for #pollinators during #InsectWeek? There's still time! See ukpoms.org.uk/fit-counts (but please take care during hot weather - FIT Counts can be done on flowers in the shade 😎 but if in doubt wait for cooler conditions)

June is a special month for UK bumblebees – the Big Eight are joined by more of our rare and less common species 💛 👑 This month, most of these rare and less common queens will produce their first daughters – the workers 💼 🎱 For the Big Eight, many queens and workers will be joined by new males 🚹

This will also affect the PoMS website tomorrow evening. The FIT Count app will still be working but it won't be possible to upload Count results until the maintenance is completed (same will apply to iRecord).

Forecast predicted a good day for @pomscheme.bsky.social visit to my square. Wind stronger and cooler than predicted. Brown Hare showing interest. At least one Hoverfly about. Spider reading text about exlusion. Glyphipterix simpliciella doing great job keeping averages up. @ukceh.bsky.social
