It's been a bumper year for Humming-bird Hawk-moths, with over 8,000 sightings across the UK reported via iRecord so far. If you've not yet seen one yourself keep watching flowers (and doing FIT Counts!) and look out for their amazing hovering behaviour.

Hummingbird hawkmoths are not hummingbirds, and they’re not hawks either, they’re moths. You’d probably do a double take if you saw one of these hover at flowers, using their long tongues to feed on nectar. We’ve seen plenty this year, always a nice one to come across. #PollinatingLT

My last 2026 1km pollinator survey for @pomscheme.bsky.social today in a very dry and hot north Carmarthenshire. Five pan trap stations put up and collected, 6 fixed timed counts, 1 bee walk count, landowners thanked, 18k steps. And that's me done for the year. And now...ice cold in Clydach!

🪰 We’re celebrating the UK’s flies! Flies don’t always get the appreciation they deserve. They play hugely important roles in our ecosystems, but they’re also amazing in their own right. They can be beautiful, colourful and wonderfully weird.

These patches of Oxeye Daisy are almost completely self-seeded on my lawn and now perfect height for a standing #FITCount! Had a few nice solitary bees and hoverflies in amongst the pollen beetles (classed as small insects <3mm) in today’s count @pomscheme.bsky.social

Lots of fresh male bumblebees visiting my garden Salvia on today’s @pomscheme.bsky.social FIT Count (moving too fast to photograph!) but also a couple of small solitary bees and a lovely ladybird that I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been doing the count 😊
