Might be time to stop working for the day. Just spent a whole minute trying to remember what the letters in BBQ stood for like it was an acronym.

Just clocked a bit of casual transphobia in the staff club newsletter. Even in a "rainbow-inclusive" institution based in the so-called queer capital of Aotearoa, trans people still have to put up with this kind of relentless dehumanisation. I'm so tired.

Survived teaching Film 101 and having a lot of mixed feelings about it. Happy to be no longer doing 60-hour work weeks but not so enthused about the bleak af academic job market. Will miss the students but not the endless admin. Mouse sums up the vibe pretty well.
Trans rights protests always have the best fashion.
We need a bigger civic square. So many people standing up for trans rights
NZ First wrote their definitions bill after anti-trans hate group SUFW showed them a petition demanding such a bill. They gathered 2,245 signatures in 4 months This petition *against* the bill just surpassed that in less than 4 hours ❤️ Please stand with us our.actionstation.org.nz/petitions/e-...
E Tū E Kī: They Don’t Speak for Us - Block the Definition of Woman Bill
The Government is progressing a Bill through Parliament that aims to limit the rights of transgender, non-binary, and intersex New Zealanders in the name of cis women, by defining “man” and “woman” (a...

My friend's group is organising a workshop for rangatahi (15years+) at The Dowse this Saturday. They describe it as a neurospicy friendly, queer, DnD loving, takatāpui, crafternoon with lots of loud cackles. www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/a-worldbui...
A Worldbuilding Workshop with the Cunty Cryptids Club
In this workshop you will do the deep work of fully fleshing out a character before moving on to brainstorming their adornments.

The Whānau Wall activates Indigenous archival practice as a living archive, expanding and contracting, responding to each location with different stories. In the Moana, a whānau wall is a familiar fixture of the Pacific home.

I feel like I'm beginning every lecture this trimester apologising for disruptions students are facing. Would prefer to live in more precedented times, thanks.

Again Again
Aberdeen-raised director Mia Moore’s debut film, executive produced by Lilly Wachowski, is a heady, romantic sci-fi starring a trans woman who enters a new day after ten years stuck in “the loop.”

Someone please go back in time and convince me that taking on co-editor roles for two edited collections at once is a diabolical decision.
Watching Dinner at Eight and feeling grateful I will never attend a dinner party with a giant lion-shaped aspic.
Left the house without my swipe, work keys, home keys, and the usb containing today's lecture slides. Guess I'm doing my morning commute twice.
Highly recommend this reading from Fired Up Stilettos. BTW to the Chair of the committee, it is not a serious offence to consensually send nudes to other consenting adults. If those were leaked in any way, THAT is a serious offence. #nzpol

Things I love about Melbourne (based on this very stressful 3 day work trip): - trams - Pesto the Penguin - Chinese food - queer bookshops - birds
In Melbourne for a work thing and had to explain to someone that as a Wellingtonian I don't actually own an umbrella because it's too windy.
I got my degree from Otago so I have shared this story on facebook expressing my disappointment. Hopefully others are doing the same. Glad to see that this article comes from staff within the university too.
this is deeply disturbing news, and implicates everyone involved www.odt.co.nz/opinion/otag...
It's important to teach students the cinema classics
I need to update my cultural references. The new student cohort does not know The X Files.
Teaching Moonlight for the first time in the Introduction to Film course and the response at the screening was fucking great. It's such a delight getting to witness these students encountering incredible films for the first time. Almost makes the 60-hour work weeks bearable.
Survived this week's lectures thanks to off-brand panadol and nurofen. I don't recommend dental surgery as part of teaching prep generally, but lecturing for two hours straight with a half numb tongue was certainly an experience.
