Nerd in Aotearoa. Tries to do the right thing. she/her

YouTube feels so much worse lately. Why does every video suddenly have half a dozen alternate titles and thumbnails? Ew I've lost count now of how many videos I've abandoned because they make a show of searching for a question on Google then highlighting the first few words of the LLM summary

Being a woman online is so fun. I just had a man who only reposts porn follow me on here. So that feels really gross No slight to sex workers on here, but *I* am absolutely not on here for men to jack off to and interactions like that make me question every selfie I've ever posted

Whenever someone sends me AI-generated work, it always increases my workload at least 2x. However, the biggest problem is that they’re completely incapable of discussing their work as I try to make heads or tails of it, largely because they didn’t do the work in the first place.

This was incredibly long (blog post & thread, both), but a worthwhile read if you’re dealing with AI slop at work. Increasingly, I’m finding folks completely offloading their thinking to AI, generating documents & plans without any critical thought of their own. Universally, the work is nonsensical.

Suresh reports on his experience talking with hundreds of executives (and, more importantly, their subordinates) about what (if anything) AI is doing for business in an essay entitled "AI Mania Is Eviscerating Global Decisionmaking": hermit-tech.com/blog/ai-mani... 11/

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I think it's appropriate for SC staff to be this careful about publishing submissions that out 3rd parties as trans The mistake was in not making this clear early on. People have only found out after having subs rejected thespinoff.co.nz/politics/30-...

What’s going on with all these gender bill submissions being rejected?

With over 40,000 public submissions made on the definition of a woman and man bill, questions remain over the number of rejections.

If you rank that transphobe in the INZ election then please make sure you hit that unfollow button from my account or let me know so I can block you. You have no idea how much shit she put me through, so any vote for her means you can fuck off.

Douglas Brown or Jillaine Heather, both "Free Speech Union" candidates, being elected to Internet NZ would be very bad indeed. We do should everything we can do ensure it does not happen Jan Rivers being elected would be worse. Hating trans women is the pure and entire core of her being.

I actually would really love to stop seeing discussions about whether someone who has caused immense grief and harm to a lot of people I care deeply about is the lesser of two evils thanks

Its horror movie shit. Just these fucking out the gate, obsessed freaks who absolutely WILL fuck you up if they can get away with it, sitting in your peripheral vision and occasionally swimming into view to make your life materially worse. And a lot of other people going "I can't see anything?"

Kia ora folks, I've just come on BlueSky and seen this - I chair Auckland Council's Community Committee and have now emailed the lead council staff member to query this and how staff are going to respond. Elected members need to be careful not to get involved in booking decisions directly but...

The Ellen Melville Centre is hosting Ani O'Brien this coming Wednesday. I have emailed them to express my opposition at ellenmelvillecentre@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz You are free to do the same

This petition is closing soon so it can be delivered to parliament before select committee starts - SURELY we can hit 27k before it closes, right?!

In the 2 most recent elections I have been Returning Officer & thus was not allowed to have public Reckons™️. This year I will be on holiday in Europe and thus remoting in to do my voting from there. @jpdanner.com's reckons have always been good enough for me, and I thoroughly agree with his top 3.

We're in the countdown to the #InternetNZ board elections. Deliberation is ongoing, but here are my ranked preferences as of 20/07/2026: 1 Bianca Grizhar 2 Keoni Mahelona 3 Daniel Spector 4 Annette Culpan 5 Nabil Sabio Azadi ? David Chisholm No Douglas Brown No Jan Rivers No Jillaine Heather

Remember a year ago when we all joined Internet NZ to keep the FSU from succeeding in its takeover attempt? Well, they're trying again this year, and another TERF who runs a separate anti-trans hate group is also trying to get on the board. Let's keep them out again 💪

It's wild to me that anyone is pointing at the US military's weird testosterone thing as some sort of parallel to transition care Bodily autonomy is the whole bloody thing about transition care. A government telling you "you must have these hormone levels" is so far on the opposite end of the scale

Yesterday we got the clearest answer from the Crown we've had all year on the HRA - they say that they now consider the 2006 SG opinion that sex is inclusive of trans people to be "contestable" but wouldn't be drawn on what that meant for govt agencies. Trans people in Aotearoa need to know.
