Cory Doctorow's newsletter is daily, so it's a lot of content, but I regard it as essential for many reasons - primarily keeping up to date on A.I and various other tech broligarcy/capitalism scams. This quote (by way of science fiction writer Steven Brust) really hits home for me:
Colin O' Mahoney
@colinomahoney.bsky.social
Writer for TV and comics. Storytelling, comics, board games, lists in bios. He/him. End Direct Provision.
Cory Doctorow's newsletter is essential reading on the intersection between technology and capitalism: "This is the kind of doctrine you can only fully embrace after sustaining the kind of highly specific neurological injury that is induced by taking an economics degree"
Seems unfortunately apt on Cartoonist's Day. But we do indeed continue, despite the flaws. How can we not?
A limerick. Based on a true story.
The "out of the way swine" comic is great but this is the best comic strip of all time
Got my tickets yesterday, very excited for this!
It gives me so much joy to announce I’ll be joining Frank Miller @frankmillerink.bsky.social and Silenn Thomas @silennthomas in a Masterclass at This Years Fastnet Film Festival #fastnetfilmfestival Tickets go on sale this Monday at 9am through Eventbrite.
Never met Tony Peters, don’t know who he is, but a million years ago on Facebook he posted this and I don’t think anyone’s ever put it better.
They could just say 'what we previously published was unchecked AI slop because we think that's what journalism is now'
This is an absolutely wild correction from The Verge www.theverge.com/features/916...
Well fuck me that's beautiful. I love nature.
Got up early in hopes of catching this photo before work this morning. There's only a few days each year where it's cool enough in the morning to make this shot possible. Thankfully, today was one of those days! #wildlife #birds
DC is, forgive the pun, absolutely dropping the ball on this one. They have pole position right now over Marvel and could make embracing an ongoing black lead series a true cultural moment. The excuses are tired.
DC Comics, Blinded by Whiteness: It has now been 1171 days since the last time DC published an ongoing series for a Black character in their mainline continuity, and it wasn’t the publisher who realized this; it was the fans.
crazy to think that before the car horn was invented you had to throw a goose at someone if they cut you off in traffic
We're finally making strides in renewable energy, and its going to be used to power Amazon data centres. JFC. I just can't with this country. This is incredibly infuriating.
€150m windfarm on Midlands bog to drive energy for Amazon data centres
Derrinlough Wind Farm part of Bord na Mona plan to deliver 5GW of renewable energy projects

1/2 Hearing a lot about the concept of living with 'friction' as opposed to AI doing all of our thinking/work for us. I think it's a crucial point, and, as ever, Ray Bradbury has a quote for this:
Fart runes, you say ... (yes, I am a child)
It’s April 10, and that can only mean one thing. YES, THAT’S RIGHT! It’s the 370th anniversary of Jón Jónsson and his son Jón Jónsson being burnt at the stake in Iceland for attacking a priest (called Jón, obviously) with witchcraft and for casting fart spells on a girl using fart runes 🧵
No, DFS. I really don't think you want my feedback on your customer service. Trust me. Neither of us want to open that can of delayed, frustrating, enshittified can of worms.
I'm not going to link to it, but if anyone is wondering what the The Guardian are doing publishing that absurd article about how authors need to use AI now, remember that The Guardian are not neutral: they have a 'strategic partnership' with Open A.I.
wouldn't it be funny if EVERYONE blocked this Attie AI account @ bsky.app/profile/atti... before they could do anything with it
Bluesky leans into AI with Attie, an app for building custom feeds
Honestly I’m quite happy to cut off HP/JKR supporters the same way I have conservatives in my life. At this point there’s a concentric circle for both groups in that “you knew what you were supporting, but you put your own WANTS in front of the NEEDS of others because it don’t affect you”.
Next week there will be another existential boogeyman designed to discourage you from pursuing art. There will always be a mosquito in your ear trying to convince you your creativity has no value. Let this Sora situation be a lesson. Stop getting pushed around by scammers. Make art
"How does one hate a country, or love one?" Ursula Le Guin always out there expressing my exact feelings in trying times.
i do not think people understand how much it scares the forces of evil that you have allegiance to humanity, not any given nation
