14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

The thing is, it is true that road design and speed limits are often mismatched — such as in the case of a wide arterial signed to 45 when the design allows people to go 65. But that's not an excuse to actively make the choice to speed, any more than finding an open vault is an excuse to rob a bank.

Just paid for my 9-month parking pass, which Michigan State University heavily subsidizes for faculty (it costs us the equivalent of $2-3 a day, whereas it should cost $10-20 a day). A reminder that we can't effect paradigm shift if we maintain bad (car-dependent) paradigms.
