In a college sociology class in the late 1980s I was assigned a Marxist analysis of education that argued that the US education system is designed primarily to produce efficient workers for the labor market. And now Trump’s Department of Education is just tweeting it out.

Elon Musk is betting that Maine voters will consider him, the Hitler-saluting white nationalist trillionaire father of 14 children with 4 different women who wants to send people to Mars, as a more trustworthy figure than a 5th-generation Maine logger who wants more spending on healthcare. I disagree. Le Pen hasn’t instigated a coup d’état. Meloni does not have track record of openly racist remarks. And Orbán accepted his electoral defeat. Not to say that Europeans would no longer vote for these leaders if they did, but we simply don’t know yet. Trump is much more extremist!

He is part of the broad wave of far right parties/politicians since 2008 across rich democracies. Our institutions just suck more. When you slow down and think about it you realize it's ten times worse than it seems. Sure it's farcical, but it's also a brutal legal attack on a man they knew to be innocent, done to distract from their own thievery and incompetence and as a flex to terrify anyone who might make them look bad.
