Proud to share our paper: Drought intensity shapes soil legacy effects on grassland plant and soil microbial communities and their responses to future drought, out now in @globalchangebio.bsky.social doi.org/10.1111/gcb.... (1/n)
Well done to @nadinepraeg.bsky.social for presenting and promoting our review of #MountainSoilBiodiversity at the #IMC2025. 👏🙏 In collaboration with @gmba-ipo.bsky.social, we compiled a wealth of information on our knowledge of alpine soil biota. 🪴🦠🪱 Openly accessible here: doi.org/10.1111/brv....
Next in the #MountainSoilBiodiversity poster session at the #IMC2025 is Theresa Rzehak showing us the variety of #soil #microbiota in different mountain habitats and elevations.
Our #MountainSoilBiodiversity session at the #IMC2025 is not yet finished: here our #PosterSession contributions: first Annabel Lindley showing us how #microbiota, #plants, and #invertebrates differ (or not) in natural, extensively, and intensively managed land.
Next in our #MountainSoilBiodiversity session at the #IMC2025 is co-convener @nadinepraeg.bsky.social showing us the soil meta-communities (i.e. the sum of all #microbiota) in mountain and alpine soils in the #LTER area #Matsch in #SouthTyrol.

Biodiversity in mountain soils above the treeline
Biological diversity in mountain ecosystems has been increasingly studied over the last decade. This is also the case for mountain soils, but no study to date has provided an overall synthesis of the...

This work is the result of a fantastic group of co-authors: @nadinepraeg.bsky.social, Paul, Fiona, Richard, Johnny, and Michael, colleagues that have taught me so much about microbial ecology: Aoife, Aaron, Israel, and Kerry (4/n)
... functional group composition (the abundance of grasses or forbs) and leaf traits (specifically LDMC) modulated the effect of increasing drought intensity on microbial communities. (3/n)
We found that increasing drought intensity has increasingly pronounced effects on soil fungal and bacterial communities during and after drought. While plant community strategy (fast- or slow-strategy) had muted effects on microbial community structure and function (2/n)
Thrilled and proud to share our paper, Plant community composition and traits modulate the impacts of drought intensity on soil microbial community composition and function, now out in Soil Biology and Biochemistry: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
