There’s a guy in Galway who has a history of being abusive to at least one partner and has been rehabilitated and welcomed by elements of the left in the last 12 months Some of these people spent the better part of 5 years harassing my wife and I over perceived slights and conspiracies.

Since I've been dealing with a lot of men behaving badly this week and the people who provide cover for them, I'll make a deal with people. I'll stop outting their shitty behaviour towards women on one condition. They stop hurting women and people stop covering for them. Agreed? Excellent!

In amongst all the tributes of Glen Hansard, I’ve come across posts about his behaviour around teenage girls, saying many people, including those writing tributes, knew of this behaviour. Would those who wrote the tributes care to comment? #speirghorm

This was the early to mid 2000s for the people I know he did it to, teenage girls had phones back then. If he wasn't doing anything wrong why not just give them his number or his email? Why did he ask for the phones back when they'd graduated secondary school?

Fuck it. I am sick to the back teeth of people today saying they never heard Glen Hansard was a groomer so therefore those of us who did hear it shouldn't talk about it. He groomed teenage girls. He was well known for it in certain circles. He would give out burner phones for them to text him from.

When women rage we get told 'not all men' - but it seems a hell of a lot of men knew and embraced this predator as a friend and icon. We get called 'man haters' - as we wonder why men hate us so much that they can ignore us being abused when they like the abuser.

Rather than rage at women clinging to the hope of good men, why are the good men not raging openly about predators in their midst? Shunning them. Calling them out at every opportunity. Not as 'fathers of daughters' but as men. The problem does not lie with women. It lies with turning blind eyes.

BUT... we are fighting a losing battle when 'it was known in the biker community' means men knew. Men like my son. Two fathers of daughters told the singer they would punch him if he didn't fuck off. The rest did nothing. Biker events carried on with a known predator as a welcome part of them.

I said I think it's because women need to feel that there are decent men. That the Bear shouldn't be our default. It's exhausting. And each 'good guy' like Hansard or Gaimen chips away at our faith in men - which is already strained. Women need a win where men are concerned.

The why was because he had met the singer at biker events, the singer's proclivities were known in the biker community. Son knows women who were victims of his unwanted attentions as girls. What has son incensed is why women were defending the dead singer. And so we had a conversation about that.

Thoughts on the dead singer. Yesterday, my middle aged straight hairy biker son went on one on social media about the dead singer and those eulogising him. He did not hold back. What was unusual was that he took to social media to vent knowing it would attract vile bile. I asked him why.
