One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Fun fact: "Reviewing an AI made translation" is more work for translators than just translating it themselves, because AI translations do not pass the sniff test beyond the most superficial. It's a loophole companies use as an excuse to underpay translators, and nothing else.

Xie lian playing a piano and singing "your song"

He keeps singing. Speech bubble from off screen (He Xuan) says: "oh yeah! we have a new piano guy. Quite good isn't he?"

Hua Cheng crushes a paper cup in shock, spilling coffee. He xuan next to him continues: "A bit TOO good for this pl... You OK, man?" He loos bored and is wearing an apron that says "piano cafe"

Hua Cheng continues to clutch the paper cup, the hot coffee is all over his clothes and burning his hand. He looks flustered. His text bubble says: "It's... It's too hot." He xuan says: "you should have picked the iced coffee then"

happy wu ming wednesday #wuming #xielian #tgcf

A drawing of Wu Ming and Calamity Xie Lian. Wu wing is in front with black robes and his smiling mask, which has a crack on the right side, blood tears falling from the left eye. His ponytail blows to the right of the canvas. Both hands are holding Fangxin, which is pointed straight up. Behind Wu Ming is Xie Lian, his robes billowing to the bottom corners of the drawing. His hair fans around him and he is wearing his white mask, bloody tears falling from both eyes. His right hand lays on Wu Mings mask while his left holds Fangxin's blade, blood dripping. The background is a red square with a few Grey clouds around various parts of the drawing.

Le Guin on the idea that there is a secret to getting good at writing.

I will dispose of the first myth as quickly as possible. The “secret” is skill. If you haven’t learned how to do something, the people who have may seem to be magicians, possessors of mysterious secrets. In a fairly simple art, such as making pie crust, there are certain teachable “secrets” of method that lead almost infallibly to good results; but in any complex art, such as housekeeping, piano-playing, clothes-making, or story-writing, there are so many techniques, skills, choices of method, so many variables, so many “secrets,” some teachable and some not, that you can learn them only by methodical, repeated, long-continued practice — in other words, by work.
