The recent wildfires have destroyed hundreds of homes and displaced thousands of Washingtonians. In this time of crisis, we must prioritize protecting people from further displacement and uncertainty.

How the Attorney General’s Office will enforce the wildfire eviction moratorium

I've directed state agencies to submit reports within 30 days identifying regulations and permitting requirements that can be waived or suspended to streamline rebuilding for homes lost to wildfires. You'll be hearing more from us on this in the coming weeks.

Typically, state law requires people to wait a week before receiving unemployment benefits. My emergency proclamation suspends that waiting period. Typically, individuals receiving unemployment benefits must prove weekly they are actively searching for a job...

We also echo what the Spokane Sheriff’s Office has said: PLEASE be aware that in and around the fire burn areas, hazardous materials remain. Use caution, wear personal protective equipment & if a building or structure is damaged, have it inspected by a professional before entering #wawildfire

This declaration means FEMA now has additional authority to provide Direct Federal Assistance when our agency requests it. This declaration is focused on immediate emergency response. This does NOT provide direct checks to individuals or unrestricted funding for communities.
