A belated update on our new lab library books! With a budget for 6 books, we ended up adding: •Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer •Climate Changed: Models and the Built World eds. @maratimes.bsky.social, Irmak Turan, Jessica Varner, Lizzie Yarina (1/2)
I've volunteered to curate my lab's small library and am brainstorming ideas of books to add. Please share your favorite books related to climate and the environment - non-fiction and fiction recommendations welcome! #Booksky

Two postdoc fellowships now open at @brown.edu Dept of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences. One in ocean sciences (apply.interfolio.com/183855) and one in any field of geoscience (apply.interfolio.com/183852). Deadline May 1.
International scientists gathered at the University of Strathclyde in March for a major international workshop led by the NERC BIO-Carbon programme. The event brought together 103 participants and around 70 online attendees, spanning modelling, observational, and experimental research communities!
Fresh off the preprint server! @maratimes.bsky.social and I show how data from the overlapping SWOT and PACE satellite missions present a step forward in our ability to observe linked biogeochemical-physical processes in the ocean. We look forward to chatting about this with folks at #OSM2026! 🌊

Surface ocean processes impact structure deep into the ocean interior. In our perspective paper, @maratimes.bsky.social, grad student Katarina Merk, and I discuss using physical perspectives to interpret subsurface biogeochemical distributions and why we as a community should care! 🌊
Physical controls on heterogeneous mesopelagic biogeochemistry
Communications Earth & Environment - A patchy distribution of biogeochemical properties in the ocean interior arises from the combined influence of biological and physical processes.

Everyone always asked why I moved to landlocked Colorado to do oceanography. Because it was the world's largest concentration of climate scientists. Because of NCAR and NOAA. In Boulder, fewer are alarmists; they are overwhelmingly problem solvers. NCAR's science is patriotic. Vought is not. 🌊
