Jorge wrote the (text)book on ocean biogeochemistry. But even more importantly, he was a mentor to so many. I changed my major and career plans after a summer spent in his group, around his gentle curiosity. He taught me that science is inseparable from the people who do it. I’ll miss him greatly.

By the way, if somebody tries to tell you climate change is only a concern of "educated and affluent" liberals, you can show them this map. At least half the people in *every* US state, even the deep red ones, worry about it
