Das EU-Parlament will Bezeichnungen wie „Veggie-Wurst“ und „Soja-Schnitzel“ verbieten lassen. Eine Mehrheit der Abgeordneten stimmte am Mittwoch in Straßburg für eine entsprechende Gesetzesänderung. Das Votum sorgte im Anschluss für breite Kritik. Die Entscheidung ist nicht endgültig, sie geht nun in die Verhandlungen mit den 27 EU-Ländern.
355 Abgeordnete stimmten für das Verbot, 247 waren dagegen, und 30 enthielten sich. Die Ja-Stimmen kamen vor allem von Fraktionen rechts der Mitte. Aber auch Mitglieder der sozialdemokratischen S&D-Fraktion und der Liberalen stimmten dafür. Die Abstimmung war Teil eines Gesetzespakets, mit dem die EU eigentlich die Position von Bäuerinnen und Bauern in den Verhandlungen über Preise in Supermärkten stärken will.
