27 year old Jacob Coxon wanging on about the labs "gambling with our lives" has pulled over 100 million views. 🤖 I don't think he's necessarily lying, and I don't think he's daft. I just think we're all staring at the wrong end of the problem. 🧵

An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?

It is a very loose plan. But a space to meet up, talk comics, talk industry, talk about literally anything else, bitch about AI, just have fun, make connections, whatever we want it to become. Probably start in a room above a pub and see how it evolves. But a space for creators to be together.

So... I have an idea, inspired by @petetrainor.fyi's call for more comics community spaces in his wonderful Drawn To Extinction... a monthly meet up in Manchester for comics writers, artists, colourists, letterers, editors... pints, chat, maybe networking, deadline accountability...

The scenario with the fewest leaps isn't killer robots at all. It's gradual disempowerment. We hand more and more economic and political decisions to systems because they're cheaper and faster, until humans can no longer meaningfully steer. It's arguably already underway in small ways.

Evan Hubinger actually said he sees more than a 10% chance AI could kill all humans in the next decade… if you read that literally, he’s actually saying there’s roughly a 90% probability it doesn't happen.

I don’t really fully buy into this stuff… I work in the area, and have done for a long time before it got trendy-trendy. These kind of statements seem really silly and very misjudged. Cause irreparable damage to the environment and jobs etc, Yes 100%. “Kill us all” is hyperbolic nonsense.
