Sometimes I just want to look at a collection of funny tweets, but all the fucking c*ntent aggregator sites are censored to hell and back. I saw one that censored the word “fat“!

I'm reading Julie Schumacher's "Dear Committee Members" and I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud at a novel this much. Recommended for academics who are tired of the politics and bureaucracy of our line of work
Sometimes I think I'm the only person left who makes a distinction between vintage (an old thing) and retro (a new thing in the style of an old thing). I know language change is both normal and inevitable, and I'm not saying newer usages are wrong, it's just something I notice occasionally.

My partner Jordan has updated her fundraiser: www.gofundme.com/f/help-jorda... She's still looking for work. A real promising lead evaporated recently, and, as you probably know, finding any job anywhere, for anyone, is really hard these days. If you could help, or share this somewhere, please do?

Update: Hey Y'all, Well, it looks like I interviewed well and had great expe… Jordan Scism needs your support for Help Jordan Avoid Homelessness Again

Ruin a book by adding a word. Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret Thatcher
Thought of the day (depressing, exhausting, political): The generic formulation of political transphobia is "THEY are coming for your daughters", and when it's said about trans women they're the They and when it's said about trans men we're the daughters.
There’s a ton of sci-fi about sentient robots that people unfairly treat like mere appliances. What sci-fi is there about non-sentient robots that people wishfully treat like friends, lovers, therapists and priests? There must be some.
this is good
Here's your reminder that earlier this year I put out a chapbook, WHEN I AM IN THE MIDST OF AN OVERWHELMING SUNDRESS, and that you can buy it: dulcetshop.myshopify.com/products/nor... You can read a piece from it here: mrbullbull.com/newbull/flas...

“In DHS’s place, Ramirez’s bill would create a cabinet-level ‘Department of Community Safety,’ which would address community concerns ranging from gun violence to disaster relief, using a public health-based approach. All immigration detention centers would be shuttered.”

I just realized that for all the drawings I made of the alien worlds I invented, I never once drew the character I imagined *myself* as. That seems kind of trans-coded, doesn't it? (though not as much as when I decided my extraterrestrial alter ego was a "hermaphrodite," lol)
I would have learned that I was an alien implanted in my mom's womb, discovered my telekinetic powers, and been reinstated in my rightful place as the benevolent ruler of the galaxy Pt04
I honestly can't remember ever being unaware of it. As early as first grade I was mostly a loner and spent a lot of time lost in my imagination, which other kids made fun of me for. I had one close friend, and we made up alien civilizations together.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

There's a scene in Moneyball (made in 2011, takes place in 2003) where the protagonist's daughter records a song for him, and I immediately thought "that's so clearly a late-2000s post–Regina Spektor style." Looked it up, turned out the song was from 2008 ("The Show" by Lenka).
Prompts a fun question: whats the most niche historical inaccuracy in a piece of work that annoys you Not like 'oh they were referring to the wrong king' , more 'they had the wrong king on a banknote in one scene'
I've solved the problem of the terrible dumpling song! Here's a new melody with words whose first letters correspond to the note names. Plus it's gross, kids love gross songs. (I realize nobody is actually going to use a song about farts and butts as a teaching tool, but that's their loss)
Question for cis men: what kinds of books did you like reading when you were a kid? (Yes this is in response to some Discourse that you may have seen, but please don't bring the Discourse to the replies! I'm looking for answers to the question, not arguments about those answers! thx!)
Does anyone have a digital copy of the score for Andriessen's De Snelheid? It's not in ASU's library and there doesn't seem to be any way to buy a copy (it's only available for rental from Boosey) Or if you have a physical copy can I verify some details with you?
I'm continuing to find so many mistakes in this book that when I'm done I might compile a list of errata for the sake of other people studying this music
I'm reading Everett's "The Music of Louis Andriessen" and I keep finding mistakes! Mostly small things like a parenthetical time index being in the wrong place. But Example 2.8 is labeled as the opening of the second mvt of "Contra Tempus," when it's actually 3 mm. after rehearsal C of that mvt!
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Assyriologist: Du[ring] grad sch[ool] I [took?] a position ... [13 lines illegible] ... now.
Tonight I went to a stranger's public birthday party which featured queer clowns doing burlesque on a ranch! There were a bunch of couches and armchairs set up in the grass to watch. Unfortunately the performances got cut short because it started raining pretty hard.
Academic friends: I am looking for texts (from any field or discipline) that address play/playfulness as either an analytical tool or a form of feminist praxis. I know this comes up in Haraway’s work but I’m wondering what else is out there. Thank you in advance for any guidance!
What's a short story you love? (only one recommendation per person pls)
Two cool ladies and a small pal. Photo from my collection, ca. 1930s.
Maybe someday I’ll be able to say “the Master Musicians of Jajouka” without accidentally saying “magicians”
musicology people: is there a standard narrative scholarly history of popular music? (mostly like anglo-american vernacular music from around 1900 to the present)
For a society that cries “what about the children!” over every moral panic, the US sure seems to like treating kids like garbage. (This isn’t really a contradiction. “What about the children” isn’t about children suffering, it’s about children being “corrupted” into nonconformity and disobedience)
