Still trying to write a holy litany despite America's silly mood. Only knows how to do one thing well; would rather be whistling in the dark. Now accepting all major pronouns (and 'thon'). May contain cats and echolalia. https://kiyanicoll.carrd.co/

Of all the things for my brain to want, writing the love interest POV for the part of the book where his communication is Very Bad (for solid reasons, but) is certainly one of them. I am not sure if I blame the migraine or the conversation about romance tropes on @celialake.bsky.social's Discord.

Got complimented on my t-shirt while picking up meds (it says "The CDC says I don't exist"), the gist of the sentiment being, "The shirt is great, the reason for the shirt is terrible, but the shirt is great." First time I've had someone seem to understand what the shirt was about.

Wales I never knew How much it hurt To carry This body Before the call That told me I couldn't put it down; There was a mistake In the scheduling. The crushing weight Of bereavement Is the closest I have ever been To death. And yet A clerical error Can be fixed Where malice Cannot.

“My whole life has been on pause as I work on getting this sorted and at the last possible moment it feels like it's been wrenched away without warning."

It is rather awkward to be doing MyBookFinalDraftFinalFINALNoReallyThisOne.doc edits on a book currently at an agent. I'm in the awkward "you can ping if you haven't heard back" period, do I do that? Do I do that and mention that revisions to land the themes harder have made it a better length?

Okay, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna talk about the process of designing a monster for my monster book. There are a lot of threads here, but I'm going to hit a bunch of stuff relevant to the "subaltern art tends towards engaging with monsters" thread from a few days ago as part of it.

I don't want to derail this too far into the personal, but I have been thinking a lot about this in the context of the novel I'm trying to sell at the moment, because I built monsters, and they mean things complicatedly. And also not all of the monsters are monster-shaped. Some are just people.

Queer grocery worker chat was wide-ranging because we both had time, and touched on childrearing, movie recs and corporate malfeasance, which departments at the grocery store have a soundproof freezer to scream in, and how weird it is that my mother doesn't seem to have noticed I'm transitioning.

brain, i understand that you'd rather do Preferred Activity, but right now we have to do Task. if we finish task we can do Preferred Activity WITHOUT feeling weighed down by the need to do Task. do you see how that works ah it's biting me my brain is biting me

Upon reflection I am going to hold forth on my Hot Literary Take of the day, which is: All subaltern art has something of a draw towards engaging with the concept of monstrousness. "The monstrous other" is necessarily defined by hegemony, and the non-fantastical Others respond.

I am beginning to suspect that testosterone may have made me less Gourmet Mosquito Food, because I was standing next to someone who was getting bitten last night, as opposed to that someone standing next to me while I tanked the bugs. Yet another petty annoyance alleviated by transition!
