I most definitely didn’t expect this to get covered by 2P4B, yet here we are. Very nice episode, can recommend!
New episode of @fourbeerspod.bsky.social We had @andymasley.bsky.social on to the show to discuss AI and the environment. We got into data centers, effective altruism and TESCREAL, and whether you should trust a researcher based on who funds them. This was a real fun one! www.fourbeers.com/133
I like that @fourbeerspod.bsky.social had @andymasley.bsky.social on, especially after how a guest reacted to him in a prior episode. Thought it was really well done, respectful, and in good faith on all sides.
Ugh. Had to pause it and walk away when it got to this section. "Do you know who is paying them?" Classic bad faith approach that I've seen from so many. Her approach here undermines whatever credibility she had on anything else she said.

In advanced seminars, I use the „Is psychology evidence ready?“ debate to discuss what psych can REALLY contribute to managing societal crises. For prep, students skim the van Bavel paper, read the IJzerman response and listen to the debate episode on @fourbeerspod.bsky.social. Works really well!

This podcast episode so perfectly illustrates how preregistration allows others to evaluate the severity of a test. Authors opportunistically deviate. The analyses are clearly not reliable. Now we can see. Preregistration delivers on it promise. Even when - maybe especially when - authors deviate.
