I talk about culture and representation. I am also fat, which shapes how I see the world and how it sees me. I am also a cisgender, bisexual, queer, neurodivergent, Egyptian/Scottish/Canadian cis woman https://youtube.com/@Sara_TheFatCultureCritic

Cis people with a world comprehension that makes my cat look like a scholar, criticizing your shit head transphobic politician isn't losing them the election, but throwing us under the bus is because it shows everyone they are a spineless loser who supports billionaires pet bigotry and so are you.

Part of my problem with the gimmick-heavy Strange New Worlds is I don’t feel like I have a grounding in who these people are and what their reality is. I like weird stuff in my SciFi; I mean, I’m a Farscape fan after all. But that was zaniness around a core of solid character and emotional truth.

Rowling is an anti-trans activist who used to write successful books. That’s how she should be seen and to connect yourself in any way to her IP enables that activism. Her activism is causing a great deal of harm, enabling her causes harm. Harm to trans people and to society as a whole.

Worth reiterating every time that this is not some cancel-culture purity test: JK Rowling has pledged more than a billion dollars of her Harry Potter money towards bankrolling anti-trans lawsuits. This finances that.

URGENT CALL TO CANADIANS: We have until September 18th to submit comments about the BC pipeline and demand the repeal of authoritarian Bill C-5. Here is where to send your comments: WCOPComment-CommentaireOCO@mpo-bgp.gc.ca You are welcome to copy and paste the attached letter (click ALT for text.)

To whom it may concern,

I am writing yet another letter as a deeply concerned taxpayer regarding the proposed BC pipeline and, more broadly, the federal government's disgustingly exploitative Bill C-5.

The land is not yours to assault and abuse. Canadians did not vote for fossil fuel enrichment. We voted for what was promised: Federal housing projects, improved healthcare, cooperation with Indigenous Nations, and resistance to U.S. hegemony--absolutely none of which we're actually getting. Instead, the corporate housing developers driving scarcity are being subsidized, the health transfer has been cut, Indigenous funding and rights are being rolled back, and Mark Carney is conceding to the Trump Regime while cozying up to U.S. corporations in a disgusting display of spineless dishonesty. You are not "Building Canada", you are destroying everything that makes it such an incredible place to live.

Our home is on fire, our air is polluted, we are in water bankruptcy. This is not a matter of opinion or disagreement; to dismiss our opposition at this point is beyond negligent, it is murderous. The proposed pipeline completely disregards Indigenous Treaty rights, puts the endangered Salish Sea orcas at risk of extinction, violates international calls to action on climate change, and goes against what the majority of Canadians want. It is utterly criminal and the actors behind it should be indefinitely barred from decision-making positions. You do not have carte blanche to take any actions you want just because you were the preferred choice over a literal White nationalist party.

You gathered our money and support by promising us things we need. To use these resources on something we do not want, something that is hurting us and destroying our home, is a violation of a contact. It is theft to fund abuse and Canadians will not stand for it. Repeal Bill C-5 immediately. We will not be governed by authoritarians.
