People in the US who vote for Republicans despite favoring many progressive policies don't do it because they "like Trump." They do it for the SAME REASON they like Trump. That reason is racism. And also misogyny. But mostly racism.

I was stumped at the bookstore today, and I need help. A young man came in looking for indigenous American science fiction. Not horror, of which there is a lot, and which we don't have. Not fantasy, of which there is some, and which we do have. Science fiction. Not so much.
Brown envelope from the government of Canada: Important notice inside My anxiety: Welp, they've canceled my work permit the day after I opened the store Reality: Income tax refund. It's a cheque! Not a large cheque, but much better than the other thing!
I love you all but you are incredibly (understandably) reactive. It’s making you SO easily manipulated by rage baiters. When you see something without context, a headline or a snippet of a quote, take a deep breath and look into it to see if you really should be upset. Please protect your hearts.

Glad to see the HWA decided not to go down the path of ruin.
Update:
My evergreen gif about The Atlantic is, once again, available on bluesky's gif search.

I've read most of the books on @tressiemcphd.bsky.social's proposed reading list and plan to read the rest. These are excellent recommendations. In fact, @gilduran.com (author of The Nerd Reich) will be a guest on Movement Memos soon.

I knew today will me much quieter at the bookstore. Customers will come. This was always a long term project of building. I have two interviews today. Things are good. But it's real quiet right now.

The only obstacle to Microsoft's obvious attempt to make LibreOffice happen is LibreOffice. Mostly the compatibility issues.
The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.
A single day is a terrible way of measuring book success at a store, but it's what I have. Therefore, I am proclaiming Piranesi to be our biggest hit, with THREE copies sold. I love this. Especially that we sold 80 books and the biggest seller sold three. The books that sold two copies were:
Sabrina Carpenter: "And I promise none of this is a metaphor" Also Sabrina Carpenter: Is a liar (complimentary)
“Oh, it’s nice that Sabrina Carpenter has cookies in her house for guests… wait, this is a sex thing, isn’t it?”
The A stands for "a protector of women from fictional threats and ONLY fictional threats." So, yeah. Asshole.
Did we ever find out if the A is for Asshole?
My brain just melted. This is INCREDIBLE

I've written Batman. We gotta let people tell jokes, man.
Oh, we’re back to “People who don’t know anything about Batman talking as if they know Batman.”

Now that we've put all those books we have in the store on the shelves, I finally managed to successfully put in an order from Ingram for books that I couldn't get any other way.
